Of course if you are not having any muscle tightening I think you can probably roll to your side sooner but you should check with your surgeon to be sure.
If you are having muscle tightening you don't want to do anything to risk tearing anything or popping the internal sutures.
Best wishes!

I found when getting out of bed it helped to first roll to my side slightly and throw my legs off the bed first, then push myself up with my arms.
Getting in bed was ok but it helped to have someone there to help pick up and move the legs over.
Hope that helps....
let me know if you have more questions.

I wasn't told NOT to sleep on my side, and I'm a side sleeper too.... I slept on my back for the first several nights, then I did get adventureous and rolled to my side. I had a pillow under my stomach (and yes, still had my compression garment on the whole time).
Getting in and out of bed wasn't a big issue with me. I slept on the couch for the first 2 nights after I got home, but that was it. Like the other poster said, I too swung my legs over the edige of the bed and used my arms to push myself up. I expected it to be a lot worse, but it wasn't bad at all.
Wake yourself up during the night and take your pain meds. That will make it MUCH easier when it IS time for you to get up.
