MRSA & Massage of incision

Hello guys,
I'm still on IV antibiotics for the MRSA and am feeling okay.  Is it normal for the area around the incision to be hard along with being swollen?  I find myself feeling the need to rub it.  I also get sharp pains in that area.  I don't know it's coming from the staples being pulled when I move or someting else.  Thanks!!

Hi Pzaz -
When I had the MRSA in my leg, it was painful at time up the incision line, and hard and swollen.  I remained in the hospital as long as I needed IV abx - about 6 days, and once I was released, the swelling, pain, redness and hardness were much better.  I'm not sure that it hurts to massage the area, but I would ask since you don't want that infection being spread further along. When in doubt, ask your doctor about it and if you need to be concerned.

Did you get MRSA from your plastic surgery or did you have it previously?

I got mine after a revision to my right thigh caused a seroma, and then I got MRSA 2 days after it was aspirated.

I got MRSA from my tummy tuck that was done on Dec. 28th.  I had surgery again on Jan. 27th where they went in and cleaned the wound out.  I consider myself lucky because my wound is healing fine.  I'm not receiving any woundcare.  I just have to wipe with saline solution, put bacitricin ointment on it, and cover with a loose dressing. I am also on two IV antibiotics to get rid of the MRSA.
