1 week out from plastics

Just touching base with everyone. I made it through my surgery pretty good. Only minor complication from a past hernia surgery. I ended up being in surgery 91/2 hours instead of 8.  Well I'm a week and 2 days out from my plastics. Everyday I am feeling better every day. I had my first followup and it went well, he took 2 of the 4 drains out. Next week they will take the stitches from around my belly button and the other 2 drains. I'm already really happy with the results.

Thanks for all the support

Pain was managed well for about a week - then I didn't need my pain meds anymore.  I had some very wise people on this board recommend you wake yourself up at night to take your pain meds - keep them in you 24 hrs a day - and it made a HUGE difference when I got up in the morning.

Yes, swelling is an issue.  I'm 17 days out and have quite a bit of swelling and have been told i can last for several months.  The Dr has told me not to wear my compression garment at night to let my incisions breathe, but I also take a warm heat and put it on my belly and do gentle massaging motions to try to get it moving.  I'm wearing my pre-op clothing, so that is good!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

If you are wearing pre op clothing-swelling isn't too terribly bad then correct. That is what I was worried bout not having clothes to wear!

I am now - but had to dig in my "big bag" to find stuff to wear for the first 2 weeks.  I wore a lot of sweats and big baggy sweatshirts to cover the drains, and to be more comfortable in.

I'm still wearing some stretchy-type of clothes, jeans, pants, etc.  There are some jeans I can't get into again yet.... I'm still wearing my compression garment too and have a t-shirt on under it too - so that can add a little bulk too....

I got a size larger exercise pants and some zipper tops. I was told to have zipper or a button down shirt to go home in. So far everything is worked out great.

I was told there will be some swelling for up to 3 months to even a year out. It really depends on your body. I had a extended abdominoplasty and a breast augmentation/mastoopexy all done at the same time so I had a lot of swelling. It gets better everyday. The pains isn't to bad once I get moving. Lying down after standing up is more painful then getting up from a prone position for me. Today I only took one pain pill but will take another before I got to bed. I think the pain is worse in the morning for me because I feel so stiff from sleeping all night in one position. Good luck and follow your Dr on one your pain management. Good luck.
