the tummy tuck that didn't happen. . .

So I was supposed to go in last Friday for a tummy tuck and brachioplasty.  Well the TT did not happen.  To make a long story a little less long, I had been coughing lately so my doctor was a  bit concerned about that.  He decided to suction my breathing tube after I got into the OR and got a little bit of green mucus out.  He decided then not to do the tummy tuck because of concern over pneumonia.  Which is good, I suppose, because I certainly don't want to have any complications.  BUT. . . what a let-down!   I had a huge amount of anxiety and worry over this and it did not even happen.  I did however, get the brachioplasty and a port revision for my band.  The brachioplasty is easy.  Not much pain at all and I think I will LOVE the results.

But now I have to decide what to do in regards to the TT.  My PS said he would either refund my money or do the TT later at no additional cost.  I just can't decide!  What I really wanted most of all was the brachioplasty and the port revision.  I decided on the tummy tuck because it wasn't that much more expensive to do it.  I am so SCARED of the tummy tuck because i have heard so much about how horrible and miserable the recovery is.  WHat should I do?

My stomach is not too terribly bad. . . i do have some excess skin and a "pooch".  I am 31 years old and have never been pregnant.  I have a boyfriend and he and I are tal king about marriage and having kids in 3-4 years.  I talked to my doctor about the potential pregnancy plans and he said that it would be okay to do the TT now because of the excess skin (I lost 180 lbs) and since I was not planning pregnancy in the near future.  He said that there would of course be some tummy pooch left after pregnancy, but that could be fixed with a mini-tummy tuck then if I even wanted it.  The tummy pooch would not be as bad as what I have now .  Part of me really wants the TT because I know I would look better in clothes.  But the other part of me is scared of the pain and thinks maybe I should not do it because of a potential pregnancy later.  But if I don't do it now, I know I won't ever do it.  It's cheaper to do it now than to get a refund too because I got a package deal with the arms.  What should I do?  I am so confused.  I am so scared too because I have heard so many bad things about TT recovery.

I just wanna scream!  I wish the TT had happened just so I would not have to be thinking about this now!  ARGH!

What is there to think about:  you want a TT and it is already paid for.  Go for it.

I did not think my TT was all that terrible and remember in the case of surgical pain -- generally it is temporary.  But the results of the surgery will be with you forever.  I would not let my fear that there might be pain keep me from doing what I want to do.  Even if the pain is awful eventually it will stop hurting!

I agree with the other post.  it's already paid for....JUST DO IT!    I had mine along with a hernia repair and hysterectomy 5 years ago and I don't even remember the pain.

You are so incredibly lucky to have a knowledgeable surgeon who above all has YOUR health and best interests at heart!

I'm so glad that you're going to be a-okay.  And when you're ready for your TT surgery, it will be there and waiting for you.

I had an anchor TT on Dec 11th.  The pain was easily managed and the recovery has been smooth.  To have a pair of pants fit normally was worth the temporary pain.
I was supposed to have a BL at the same time but my body temp dropped really low so it wasn't done.  I sympathize completely with you.  It is very disappointing.  However, I agree with the other posts.  Its paid for, you want it...so go for it.
Good luck in your decision.

I'm sorry to hear about your TT not happening - mine got postponed too and i was really bummed.  I did finally have it.

There are good and bad things about each surgery.  I only took pain meds for a week after my surgery - took them 24 hours a day - woke myself up during the night to take them and it made my mornings SO much better.

I found the part that was hardest to handle was the drain issue.  If you understand it and can get by it - then you won't have a problem.

Just don't expect to be in your pre-surgery size pants right away.  What I found hardest to deal with was I was the same pre-op weight and was wearing a 3 sizes bigger because of the swelling. It does get better.

Just undertand all the aspects of the surgery - not just the pain.

You will be happy with your results - and since its paid for - my opinion is you should go for it.  BUT - its up to you.  This is a very emotional decision and you need to be emotionally ready to handle it.  It sounds right now like you're not.

I think if you really want a TT, then should do it.  To me, the pain wasn't that bad and I had a lot done.  I really thought it was going to be a lot worse.  Yes there are horror stories but I find there to be a lot more good stories too.  Just be informed and know that you will be happy when all is said and done.

Good luck!

If  kids are in the future I would wait . Save the money in a different account and when you have your kids then get the TT. You might have to have two if you do it now. If it were me and a child was in my future I would wait. A mommy make over after babies would be a great thing especially if the money was already there for it when the time comes.
