follow up care with surgery in Dr. Sauceda

Hi everyone!

I submitted my photo's by email to Dr. Sauceda.  God I hated takiing pictures of myself naked and really hated emailing them.  I'm just waiting for Dr. S. to say, "you need to lose more weight before I can do anything for you".

Anyway, my question is this.
If you had surgery in Mexico, what did you do to arrange for follow-up care, once back in the states?   I would like to have something arranged just in case I have complications once I get home.

Thank you for any help you can give!

Kathie

I spoke with my PCP to be sure he wouldn't have any problem with seeing/treating me in case of a complication. He was more than willing...in fact, he was absolutely excited for me!

I have heard of others arranging a follow up visit, for a standard visit fee, with a local ps to keep an eye on recovery and healing.

Hi Kathie,

I went to fillcenterusa.com to schedule my fills and the kit that they give you once you are banded has a web page that lists all doctors that have done follow up care.

Good Luck!

He did email me back and ask if I was done losing weight, LOL- I still carry a lot in my legs and I have grown to accept that, I explained that I havn't lost any in 6 months and am happy with the size I am= other than the excess tummy skin, etc.  He never said I needed to lose more weight, it is our choice when we have the procedure.

When I went to Mexico, I had my PCP as my backup. She prescribed painkillers, antibiotics and anything else she thought I would need. She helped me get the stitches out as well.

Unfortunately I had a bit of trouble finding follow-up.  My PCP was wary, and definitely refused to provide pain medication and I couldn't find another plastic surgeon who would touch the work.  I had to have stitches and drain removed back home and ended up going to an urgent care clinic.  The doc was good and all went well.  I'm sure if there was infection or something my PCP would assist me.  Just try to line it all up in advance so you don't worry about it.

Okay -- I'm going to be the snaggle-puss and point out what I have seen posted here on this board:

When it comes to follow-up care via email from surgeries performed out of the country, I have not once ever heard of a doctor looking at photos of problems and responding with anything other than "that looks perfectly normal to me, all is fine and going as it should be" -- no matter what the problem is.

Fine -- anyone who has seen my posts before knows my feelings about traveling abroad for cheap surgeries, so I don't want to derail this convo for THAT ... but it seems to me that the response from the original surgeons overseas tends to be pretty much boilerplate dribble that passes the buck and is entirely exculpable.
