Pre-op pedicure -- done

I had my pre-op pedicure yesterday!

I will be admitted tomorrow and then on Friday I will have a revision to my lower eyelid surgery and possibly a revision to my brow lift.  I had my lower eyelids done back in June and when they healed there was a little sagging that exposed my eye a little too much.  And also I developed scar tissue inside the outer corner of my eye that I can feel pulling at my eye all of the time.  It is not painful most of the time but I am always aware of it.  The plastic surgeon has been planning his approach to the surgery for some time as this is not an off the shelf surgery.  He has consulted with the eye surgeons at the hospital and there is a possibility an eye surgeon will be involved in the surgery.  As I understand it there are two parts to what he will be doing.  The first part involves taking down the scar tissue that has formed on the muscle (or is a tendon?) and the second part involves revising the lower lid.  In most people the lower lid sits at the bottom of the iris of the eye.  In my case one can see white space below the iris.  He will be taking a skin graft from in front of my ear and although we have discussed this many times I am still a little unclear exactly where he will be putting the skin graft.  All I know is that he told me that after a few months the graft will not be noticeable.  Oh, joy -- because next to my hair my eyes have always been one of my good features.  Needless to say -- this one is scaring me a tiny bit more than any other procedure I have had.

The plastic surgeon who will be doing this surgery is not the plastic surgeon who originally did the eyes nor any of my body work).  The surgeon who will be doing my surgery is the facial specialist on the team.  He is also the surgeon that has provided practically all of the follow-up care for all of my surgeries.  So I have been working with him for two years now.  He knows me.  He knows my history.  I have confidence in his ability and I have faith that he will be there for me if anything goes wrong.

The plan (at least when I spoke to the surgeon last month) is for me to be in the hospital at least over the weekend.  I generally have the same anesthesiologist; the same patient transport specialist and the same nurses.  Then there are my buddies at the nursing home and out on the spinal cord injury unit.  So in some ways this will be like old home week for me.

You guys wish me luck!

Good Luck Red, I didn't realize you had been having such problems with the eye surgery. Sorry to hear it and hope you are pleased with the outcome. Thats a hard area to be messing with. I was going to go for a face lift but chickened out since I was afraid of scarring. Maybe in the future I will work up the nerve. Toenails RED for Valentines Day??????, Carole

How on earth did you figure that one out?!

I am still hoping to have a lower face lift.  My neck is pretty sad looking and I have lots of wrinkles around my mouth.  Thanks for your good wishes.

Good luck to you too Susan.   You will have to give me a blow by blow when you feel up to it.  I still want to get my neck done and a face lift. Since he is taking skin from in front of my ear that area will get a little tweek and he told me he will do both sides so I do not end up lop-sided.  But a face lift that ain't!

Just a precaution before you pay for that pre-op pedicure..make sure they do not require you to have polish off of your toes during surgery.  I had to remove mine before they wheeled me into the operating room.  It wasnt the surgeons request, it was from anesthesia.  They want to be able to see the color of your nail beds.  I'm like ''you can see my fingernails''.....no go.  Had to come off.  grrrrrrrrr!!

I have had several procedures at this same hospital and they have never said anything about  polish on my toes, so it should be fine.  Thanks for the heads up though.

Red...Im sure you will be just fine...it's not hospital protocol, its physician protocol in this case your anesthesiologist.  Hopefully you wont have to ruin your pedi like I did!!

Omigosh, Red -- Scheduling my personal hygiene stuff pre-op was a MAJOR big deal to me.  Waxing (everything), hair coloring, acrylic fills, pedicure (also red), straightening and styling hair ... I didn't leave an inch of my body unpruned.  I can absolutely relate!

Good luck to you!  You don't need it, and you're going to do great.

A woman after my own heart!  I just can't stand the thought of anyone thinking I am not well groomed.  So yep, everything has to be tidy.
