Paying for plastics
I'm sure this has been asked before and I've missed it so please excuse me if so but...I am 2 years out from LapBand surgery and have lost 160 lbs. I recently went for a plastics evaluation and am going to require $30,000 in work. Because of the economy being in the toilet we don't have enough equity in our home to refinance as I had planned all along and most of the medical loans only have up to 5 year terms which would make for a much-too-hefty monthly payment. Any other ideas as to how I can come up with the money I need for my surgeries? I'm feeling pretty bummed at this point. And it doesn't appear that insurance is going to pick up much if anything...as I already assumed would happen. Thanks for your input!
There are a couple of ideas that come immediately to mind.
First, you could commit to one procedure at a time. Pay for each with cash so you don't incur any debt.
Second, you may consider going out of the country. The procedures I had done were going to cost me about $30,000, too. But, I went to Mexico instead, and the total cost was $10,650 for everything needed.
Third, see if there are any residency programs in your area that might be able to perform your surgeries at a reduced cost.
Lastly, you could might consider a second job solely to save for your plastics fund.

I am 5' 6" and about 140 lbs., size 0-2 pants/M-L tops.
The implants seem to have simply filled my empty skin and, even with my residual swelling at 5 weeks, The 36D bras I owned before surgery still fit perfectly... I just fill the entire cup now! lol.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if I went down a cup size by the time healing is complete and the swelling is gone.

I saw a surgeon in my area and it would have cost around 29,000 for everything (Anchor - LBL, BA/BL, Arms) But with Dr. S in Mexico I will be paying almost 60% less than that...It is not only the money for me but also the fact that Dr. S is a great surgeon...The most I would have had to pay out of pocket cash would have been about 15-18k and if I was not using Dr. S I would have looked to finance the other 10k...But regardless I was going to get it done...Hope this helps and good luck.
BTW: I agree with the previous poster to do what bothers you most...For me it is everything..lol
