I went to see my bypass surgeon yesterday and he could not believe how bad the skin under my tummy, down to my pubic area and the upper thigh looks. He wanted to take a pic but someone had stolen his camer. Anyway, it looks like 2nd degree burns and the skin is actually pealing like a sun burn. My husband and I took pictures last night of the mess and got the best we could get without flashing the world, lol. My questions are these, has anyone else had my the same ins I have and how much time did it take to get approved for a tummy tuck, if you got approved, and since my rash goes so far down do they ever cover any other lower lifts other than the tummy tuck. My rash actaully goes in between my upper thigh and my female area, lol. Im in so much pain and so I didnt know if that would speed the process along since it is so bad. I had no prob getting approved for my bypass and I only needed to loose about 90 lbs. , and i have lost 91. Thanks ahead for any advice about my questions, or about plastic surgery in general.

I have BCBS Fed and was denied for my panni request at first.  Believe me, I needed it, too!  My panni was huge and I had constant problems with rash.  We had to appeal and did win the appeal.  I had my surgery in Nov. and they ended up paying for the entire tummy tuck as I had it at a teaching hospital in FL.
My best advice is get all your documentation in order, then call and ask them exactly what they need.
Good luck and hope your request is granted the first time!

Thank you Bon Bon for writing to me. I actually forgot I posted that on here, lol. I went to see the surgeon, it will be 3 weeks on Thursday. Even the plastic surgeon was shocked at what my panni  and thighs looked like. He said although its sometimes hard to get the ins to pay for the thighplasty, that if they were ever going to approve someone, I would be that someone. And although we had taken pics at home he wanted more at the office, because it was so severe. The cream my bypass surgeon perscribed for me cleared it up after one tube and one refil but as soon as I stopped using it, because it ran out,  the rash has started reappearing. So I called the RNY office today and they were calling in another script and faxing the info to the plastic surgeon, for documentation. When you say that they paid for the entire tummy tuck to you mean just the panni or did they pay for what they refer to as the abdominoplasty, where they repair the muscles and have to move your belly button?
