Some of you may have noticed that oh now has a "share" button which means anyone can post our messages to facebook, etc.  I like to keep my oh life and oh life separate.  Weight loss surgery and plastic surgery are such private topics.  I don't want my business being able to be spread out all over cyberspace.  I've removed my avi and made my profile private.  This saddens and angers me.  WTH is oh thinking?????

Well I was thinking of posting my before and after plastics photos this weekend.  I won't do that now.  I purposefully have avoided some of the social network sites because of some people from whom I do not want any contact! Now my ex-husband can see something on Facebook that I've posted on OH?  Great!  If this is not rectified, I will not be posting anything on any of the forums.

Thanks OH!

I JUST now noticed that!! I agree, I'm not even sure if I'm going to post on fb that I am going to have my surgery. I am comfortable sharing here, but not with my friends that know nothing about obesity and the havoc it leaves on your body, that I leave for this board because we can all relate with one another!

I know that people could cut and past and there were many ways our posts and pics could be shared publicly elsewhere without our permission and such is the nature of the Internet.

However, I'm still not OK with OH's new direct links to other social networking sites as it encourages people to share posts etc without permission.  It's now in your face, makes it easy and that it's OK, a good thing - let's share everywhere!  I don't like it one bit.   I felt like unless you were struggling with obesity and WLS this site isn't one you would come to and that made me feel somewhat secure that what I posted here remained for the most part within this community.

I am very private about my WLS, nobody knows except my mother, sister, and 2 friends and of course everyone on OH.  This is my own deal, I realize others may feel differently about the privacy of their journey.  And, I have benefited greatly from Jessica and Tammy as well as plenty of others who have blogged about their WLS and plastics but I am not comfortable being so public for my own reasons.  I did however want to pay it forward as much as I could while still feeling my story would remain here on OH for the most part.

I've since made my profile private and deleted all my pictures and my signature.  I would like to share my stats & pictures with my OH friends from this forum and a few others but I do not want to take the risk that they will show up on fb etc.

That is scary and embarrassing in some ways... I am not sooo sure I will be posting my post op pics for everyone. I need to think about it!!!!

I've changed my profile pic and made my profile private as well now. I don't like this option at all and wish they would remove it pronto. I enjoyed having this site as a safe haven to discuss our journeys together. I'm very disappointed in OH for doing this. I will likely be less inclined to share anything now. I'm considering removing all my info and pictures now. Thanks for coming out and saying what many of us are thinking, Laura. I agree.

I posted elsewhere on this a minute ago.  Don't want to beat a dead horse....

But there is nothing private about these boards, and nothing is promised by OH to that effect.

Many, many other eyes read these posts....I'm sure individuals solely interested in financial gain marketing, whatever, do so all the time.

I clearly remember some obvious ad-type posts aimed at promoting a surgery clinic or whatever that OH removed.

I think our business is "spread out all over cyberspace" anyway.

I suppose if you choose to enter a password-protected, members-only  chatroom then maybe it would be more private.  But these boards are pretty much like standing on a podium and speaking, showing your pics, whatever.
