Plastic Surgery covered by insurance???

Hoping I can get some advice....

Can anyone shed light on if they have had their insurance cover any plastic surgery operation??

I am 11 months out of surgery...granted I have another 9 until I can seriously consider PS but it is quite evident that will need a Tummy Tuck...because of the weight loss and the problem is compounded by the fact that I have had 2 C-sections and I have lost most nerve and muscle from the BB down...

In 2007 when I had my daughter the Dr that had done my c-section had asked if I was interested in a TT - and although it sounded great I turned to him and said honestly what is the point when you are this heavy at almost 250 pounds...

Im starting to regret this choice not to get one then!

Every insurance policy is different. I'd read your policy and talk to a PS and see what they think. A lot of insurance requires things like skin infections and your skin hanging over your pubis.

Stacey-
You might want to take a look at a couple of articles Dr. LoMonaco has written on insurance coverage.  http://www.drlomonaco.com/about-houston-cosmetic-surgery.sht ml

MY surgeon submitted to my insurance for my panniculectomy.  I was denied, stating I didn't have enough DOCUMENTED proof of infections from this huge belly.  But, my Doctor called them and told them it was necessary for me to have this surgery, and there was more to look at than just infections.  They reversed their decision right then over the phone, and my surgery was 5 days later.
So, I would say go to the doctor every time you get a rash or infection, take pictures of it, and keep records of the perscriptions because they seem to get hung up on this for some reason ( and look for a doctor who go the distance for you!)
My insurance plan was ending the end of the year, so I knew I would have to choose another plan for this year.  I figured I had nothing to loose by having her submit for the surgery, and if they denied, I would try again the first of this year.  So glad they approved it.

I was denied twice, than I got a surprise approval for the panniculectomy after my doc wrote a letter.  I don't know what it said, but he worked miracles.  I had to pay for my arms out of pocket, but since they were done at the same time as my tummy, insurance covered a large part of the bill.  Ask the doc if he or she works with the insurance companies.  I consulted with one doc who said she didn't even bother to file because insurance never covered PS - NOT TRUE.  Needless to say, I didn't use her.  Shop around!

Insurance will frequently pay for a panniculectomy (which is just removal of excess skin below the waist), but generally does NOT pay for a full TT (which is the tightening of the muscle)...
