I went to the doctor today to have my stitches looked at and some were removed.  It's supposed to be a happy moment righ?  However, when they weighed me, I was 13lbs heavier than when I went in for PS .  I had lipo all over my torso front and back as well as my thighs so I'm hoping like heck it's all swelling.  Doc S. said he removed @3 liters of fat, but injected 650ccs into my butt.  I also had a BL/BA (300cc each).  Still,  I should be down a few lbs when all is said done.  I haven't been eating a lot, less if anything.   Anyone else gain this much?

I was up by 6# when I got home from Monterrey, then went down 3#, and am back up by 6# again. My weight has defiinitely fluctuated along with the swelling.

But, I didn't have lipo...so I would imagine that all the damaged tissue is holding a fair amount of water. The weight will drop as the tissues heal and the swelling decreases.

In the meantime...patience.

Well, I haven't had my plastics yet so I don't know if it is the swelling but I do understand how sad it is to see the scales go up.  I gained 4 lbs over Christmas that I can't seem to lose and swear it is plummeting me into depression.  I know we shouldn't be tied to the number on the scale but the fact is its hard not to be.  Hope your swelling goes down soon and all is well with you!!!!!!  Robin

I hear you...the swelling SUCKS!!   Dr. L took off 15lbs of flesh from me last week..and the scale shows I'm only down 6 lbs...so 9 pounds of WATER????  YUCK!  I know I look puffy, but that is a LOT of swelling!  And like you, I've hardly been eating much.  I knew I'd swell because I swell during my time of the month and I swell when I ovulate...so my body just LOOKS for reason to retain water...  but it's not fun!

15lbs!  That must feel really good to be rid of.  Good luck with your healing.

It's unavoidable but a very small percentage of it actually fat gain.  Just give yourself time to heal and once you can get active again you'll be below your old weight in no time.  Try not to let it get you down, ok.

I don't like the scale mentality myself.  For too long, I based my self esteem on that number and it hardly ever paints a true picture.  Under "normal" cir****tances you can use it roughly gauge if you need to adjust your calories for the week.  If you're at a normal weight that's about all it's good for.  For our PS situation, stepping onto it will mostly tell you how much fluid retention you've got going on.

I'll weigh myself when I get back, it's a weakness and I can't help it.  If I'm up 20 pounds BIG DEAL.  I'm eating to heal and it's better to have excess calories than not enough.  Down here, I can't really judge how many I need like before.  I can't even really do a good job counting calories.  So I'm not.  I am doing what I can - focusing on protein and good whole foods nutrition.  Whatever fat I put on will be blasted off in months following my return to the gym.

Hey Mark - Thanks for the "buck up" talk.  Did you lose your weight through diet and exercise alone?  You sure sound disciplined!  This past summer I got into sprint triathlons and I have worked out a lot since my WLS (and on and off throughout my life) except have barely done a thing since last October (09) due to an injury and now I've got this recovery to deal with.  I cannot wait to get back in the gym, on the bike, on the trails and in the pool!  Working out has been the best anti-depressant in the world for me and I'm really feeling low without it.

You're welcome, Tamera.  Anytime I can spread a little optimism, I do!

Yes, I lost my weight using only diet and exercise.  I found a plan that worked for me and made it my lifestyle.  For me, nutrition and exercise go hand in hand.  It did take discipline at first but eventually it became habit.  I taught myself to view food/exercise much differently than I did most of my life.

I'm with you on wanting to get back to exercising.  I can't wait either.  I'll have to be happy with walking for now.  Getting out into the sunshine here helps my mood instantly.

Mark
