1st mamogram w/implants

Hello everyone, I can't believe it has been 7 months since my plastic surgery.  I am doing great, and I will take pictures of my scars soon.

I just had my 1st mamogram since having breast implants.  Mine are under the muscle, and I had no problems whatsoever.  I was very curious, and had a great tech who let me see the films as she did them.  They took the side views, and to take the front views they had to kinda push the implant into my chest, and just pull my tissue forward into the machine.  simple, painless and very interesting.

I have been having mamos for the last 10 years because of my family history.  My mother died at 56 from breast cancer, my oldest siter died at 48 from breast cancer, and most recently, my next oldest sister was diagnosed at Christmas.  She had a lumpectomy last week, and is doing well, we are just waiting for the lymph nodes to come back to see if she needs chemo as well, or just radiation.  Her cancer was not caught on the mamogram, tho, calcium spots were.  When she had the calcium biopsied, an ultrasound found a spot that the mamo did not.  That was also biopsied, and was found to be cancerous, the calcium spots were not.  My mamogram came back  "normal"  but I will be having an ultrasound as well, since it has been deemed necessary by my o.b.

I am praying for my sister Debby, and praying that the steps I took (having WLS, dropping 125lbs,quitting smoking 10 years ago) will significantly decrease my chances of disease in general.  Now if they can just find a cure for stress, I would be all set :0)

Take care everyone, I'll get some pics on soon.

Thank you for this post.

I have to admit that I feel under the muscle is the better option for someone like you and me, with a strong family history of breast CA.

I hope and pray with you that losing weight and changing our habits will keep us from getting disease also.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister.  And losing your Mom and oldest sister is so sad.

Did Dr. Sauceda agree to put your implants under the muscle because of your family history?

I'll be getting mine in the Fall hopefully.

Good news :)  And, if you haven't already, please go to armyofwomen.com and sign up to participate in their surverys and research on breast cancer!!!  It's painless, you get  emails from time to time with different research projects they are conducting to see if you fit into their sample population for that particular study....  Glad the mammogram went well...  Robin

TYVM for the info and prayers.....I think Dr. Sauceda put them under because of my lack of original breast tissue, and not needing a breast lift.  I *think* ladies who are well endowed to begin with, have the implants over the muscle to fill up some of that "volume" that they lost along with their weight loss.  If anyone knows for sure, please chime in.

On the other hand, my O.B. was so impressed with my weight loss and plastic surgery that she just went nuts.  She struggles with her weight also, and was so stoked about Dr. S's skills that she asked for his name and info for her other patients, and could not believe the price I paid for the quality of "work" that I had done.  I also just scheduled my breast ultrasound, and will rest easier after that.  :0)

Have you been tested for the BRCA gene? If you have it you can do more preventative measures to help you not get it. I have a friend that her mom had the BRCA genes and 3 out of 5 siblings had it. It did help and insurance covered it. Good luck and prayers for your sister.
