BOTCHED SURGERY
If she had a bad experience with Dr. Sauceda I would respectfully look at it and ask him about it. Every Dr. is bound to have had a bad surgery. You can't control all outcomes. But otherwise its scare tactics as it sounds like she's referring to Quiroz or the like. It's like comparing Dr. Aceves (WLS) with Dr's who haven't done so well.

I can't see the picture in question due to work firewalls so I could be very wrong here.
But, sometimes, it's not a case of botched surgery, it's a case of a patient not performing their personal post-op surgical after care appropriately.
Or it's a case of bad communications between the patient and the surgeon.
There are many fine surgeons out there, performing excellent work: all of whom, in the beginning, started off without any experience and had to learn their craft. With a learning curve, it would stand to reason that the early surgeons are not the same caliber as those they performed with more experience.

It sounds like a scare tactic to me. I decided to have surgery in Mexico with 100% confidence in my Dr because of the relationship I created with him over emails (many, many, many) and because of all the feedback I received from past patients. Money wasn't the reason for me going out of country but I can't deny it was a factor that enabled me to get all the work that I needed/wanted. In no way would I (and I believe many of us OH'ers) go to any doctor in country or out just because of money. The results I saw from past patients and their feedback about care was what won me over for my Dr. I had my WLS surgery out of country also and have to say I was cared for better than I have in US as was the case with my PS. It is true that we can have complications once we return from our surgery...that is why it is imperitive to have a Dr in line in the case there are issues. This is true for out of country or just out of town PS.......

I would be very upset if I was considering plastics and got this in my inbox. No one has the right to try and horrify you, particularly if you haven't asked their opinion. Do you homework(sounds like you have) then make your own decision. This person didn't even have the guts to say who the surgeon was.
Wishing you the best, no matter where you go for your surgery!

I don't feel like this post was scare tactis at all. The points brought up are all valid whether the name of the PS was posted or not. If you go out of the country you must have someone lined up in the US to help you in the event of complications which as we have all heard on this site they do ocurr from time to time. We are all on this site to share the good, the bad and the ugly, for all of those that have had surgery with Dr. S or any surgeon outside of the US , perhaps you can share with all of us what your game plan was if you had complications once you were in the US? In any type of surgery regardless of the surgeons skills and experience, the possibility of complications is always there. In the US we all sign very detailed release forms explaining this to us.
Hey...I do not think she is a mean person, the lady who sent in, but if she felt this way she should have posted it for EVERYONE to see...I am not the only person on OH considering surgery out of the country...People have surgery out of state and return home and have a complication that they need to handle immediately and the surgeon is many miles away...I understand where she may have been coming from but feel that there is would have been a better way to get your point across.

I think sending this randomly to someone's inbox is scare tactics. Especially the way it's phrased... very negative and very alarmist. A similar posting seems to pop up on this board about every 3-6 months (probably from the same poster?) and it's disheartening.
Whether you get surgery from an out-of-town US surgeon or from a surgeon out of country, you still have to deal with distance and travel, etc. You may not have some of the legal resources with an out-of-country surgeon as an in-country surgeon.... but you actually have surprisingly little legal recourse against in-country surgeons unless you can prove without a doubt that your poor results were due entirely to gross negligence on the surgeon's part (nearly impossible with something as complicated as PS). So, essentially, you don't really have any legal recourse either way.
Anyway... I'm one of those patients who went to a TJ and had my surgery with Dr. Q. All-in-all, I am quite pleased with my surgery even though I had post-op complications. I have some scarring, especially where my belly dehisced, and a pucker or two.... but I am NOT blaming that on Dr. Q or his staff. I had massive surgery and there were bound to be one or two things that weren't perfect when all when said and done... it's the law of probabilities. No my scars aren't perfect, no I don't look like it all never happened... so what? I don't have 10+ lbs of extra skin and flab hanging off me giving me chronic infections either and I don't have to wear one or two sizes bigger just to fold my sharpei folds into my clothing either. I was fat for decades, it did horrible damage to my body, no surgeon was ever going to be able to magically make that all disappear. My expectations were realistic, I knew my odds of having complications were high (regardless of where I went under the knife) and I took precautions by getting my local doc and surgeon on board for after care and any post-op complications.
It wasn't all about the money for me either... mostly it was about not being able to get insurance approval and being DENIED SERVICE or CHARGED EXTRA in this country because my insurance company wouldn't preapprove me. Since when should a completely non-medical corporation have the deciding factor in whether or not you get a procedure that has been recommended by your doctors?! The system is so fundamentally flawed in our country, but they continue to use scare tactics like this one to make us all believe that all other medical practices are substandard... and that is complete and utter BS!!

I don't understand why you would bother sending an email and not name the Dr. If I had an awful experience I would want the world to know and wouldn't hesitate to say why.
Yes you have to have setup homecare at home for just in case. I would have had to travel regardless in USA or out of the country. This would have been an issue regardless. My local Dr. and my BIL who is a NP both said they were fine with it. Last year my PCP also was fine with my WLS being done out of the country. I understand going to Mexico is not for everyone but for some of us we chose the best Drs we could find in Mexico because it was the only option.

My personal feeling is that, regardless of how skilled Dr. Saucedo is, I would not want to be that far from my surgeon in case of any complications. Dr. L is my surgeon and always will be. Is he perfect? Far from it, but I trust him with my life and my body. And I know he's just a phone call away, or a short drive.
