BOTCHED SURGERY

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU GOT THIS IN YOUR INBOX???

Georgeouslsa,

Here is the photograph I call:  "This is why I WON"T go to Mexico!  And this girl didn't even think there was anything wrong!  Please review some of Dr. LoMonaco's posts about the perils of going to Mexico.  I know some folks have had great success, but there are others who, in my opinion, were butchered all to save a couple thousand dollars.  One of his posts in particular refers to the fact that you have no legal recourse against these out of country docs.  Our courts, the AMA, and all the surgical societies have no control over them, and most surgeons here won't provide any continuing care to anyone who had procedures outside the country.  You come home and you're left on your own but for phone and e-mail....that is unless you want to jump back on a plane.  What happens if you develop a hematoma or seroma.  What happens if your incision gets infected or drain sites get infected, what happens if you have skin or fat necrosis, or wound separation?  These are things I caution you to think about, if you are thinking of going out of the country.

(I DELETED WHO IT IS FROM OUT RESPECT: A PICTURE WAS POSTED WHICH WOULD NOT SHOW UP)

There is always going to be others that are going to be NEGATIVE about the going out of the country thing!  Most of them HAVE NOT experienced what it is like to be a patient of a Mexican surgeon.  I have first hand experience twice, from two different Mexican surgeons.  I can honestly say the care that I received from both of these surgeons FAR surpassed the care I have received from my surgeons here in the US.  I have had fabulous results from both surgeons and would not and will not hesitate to go back to either of them in a heartbeat!

I agree...My only issue is that, why should Dr. S and other reputable Dr's in other countries be penalized for what mistakes others made...I am VERY comfortable with my decision and if I can leave today for Mexico I would be there...This is harder to explain to people than having GBS because they just do not understand...I admit that even for myself it was odd for me to think about going out of the country for ANYTHING but after seeing the results and meeting with him and other surgeons I feel at ease and my ex-fiance who is still by my side and helping me pay for my surgery is all for it and he is VERY traditional.

whoever the hell sent that - ***** THEM!!!

*I* got jacked up RIGHT here IN the States with a CERTIFIED plastic surgeon - so *I* don't believe SHIOT about the whole ceritifcation and experience blah blah blah.  Any doc has the chance to jack you up - you gotta do your homework, legwork and trust your gut.  Plain and damn simple.

My revision was done by a doc whose not plastic certified by the precious institution that deemed themselves the gods of plastics - but I LOVE my results and I got a doc *****ALLY cared AND knew exactly what the heyl he was doing!!!!

BUMP that shiot and do what YOU are driven to!!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

People are crazy!  Everyone has their right to their own opinions, but they also do not have all the facts.

Georgeousisa,

Can you load this in to your photo album, and then copy and paste it in to here?  You can also load it on to photobucket, flickr, or another photo website, picasa, or another photo site, and then copy and paste it on to here.  It would be very helpful to see the actual picture and maybe someone will know which Dr performed the surgery.  I think alot of people are assuming that it is Dr Sauceda when it might not be the case.

Lately I've noticed some people take a lot of liberties with the pm function.  I've felt compelled to close my profile to all but friends.

This person could have answered one of your many posts on the subject.  Of course that would have resulted in a discussion of BOTH sides of the arguement.

Unfortunately, the $$$ issue is the difference between carrying pounds of skin forever or having it removed for a lot of us.  Its not just a matter of looking for a discount.  True, when nightmares happen right here in the US you have some recourse.  However, it is of no immediate value to you when you still have no access to medical care because insurance won't cover issues related to a botched cosmetic procedure.   You can sue down the line but the issue of immediate care remains in question.

I've been lurking on your plastics posts.  Thanks, I'm learning a lot.

Hey Girly...Trust me...For me to pick Dr. Sauceda is not totally based on the fact that I am saving OVER 17k...But because of the work and satisfaction that others have had...Seeing his work has put the icing on the cake for me...If I was unable to find a surgeon out of the country that I trusted I would still have my plastics but definitely not altogether because of price... I am VERY satisfied with my decision to go to Dr. S and just with any procedure I just have to leave it in God's hands and pray for the best.

I wish for EVERYONE'S benefit the author of that letter would at least let you mention either who the Dr. IS or at a minimum, who it ISN'T!  And then show the pic so all could understand and perhaps comprehend her dilemma and what kind of prob. she ended up with.  Without that info, it makes everyone have to be worried about ANY Dr. from over the border - and that's patently unfair.  By her revealing the Dr.'s name or at least who it "isn't" doesn't mean it's an endictment of that Dr. but only that THOSE complications were HER experiences with him.  Certainly all patients know that ONE big disadvantage in returning home after surgery and if experiencing a complication,  is who can they see to treat them for after-care?  If *I* were going to Mex. to have surgery, I would absolutely make advance plans with a local Dr. here in the U.S. to make sure that my bases were all covered when I return.

All Dr's have made their share of mistakes or at least less-than-terrific results - those are all the patients whose pictures they DON'T show in their book or on their website!  We've seen and heard about lots of them here at OH, often times when the patient him/herself doesn't even realize that their result is far less than ideal!  But there's a big difference when it's gross negligence.  This kind of post above doesn't help anyone when there is so much up in the air and unknown.  If she ended up with a complication, was it due to negligence or "simply" that she ended up with a complication that could have resulted from ANY Dr.?  I've had 3 surgeries here in the U.S. from very fine, top surgeons and had a complication from each one - but none were from the Dr.'s mistakes.  Just my luck and age, wt., health, who-knows-what.  We can only learn when specifics are given and we're all here to express OUR own experience and opinions in the hopes that others will learn from them.  Having a bad experience with a specific Dr. doesn't have to mean he's "no good" - all the facts have to be considered before going that far.
