I'm having BA/BL and LBL with Dr. Lomonco on June 1. For those of you who've had implants, did you choose silicone or saline? What sold you on your choice?

I am a counselor in a trauma related field. I went with saline solely because if I am in a traumatic accident or car wreck and they rupture my body will just absorb the saline. I know it's morbid, but that is how I decided.

I chose saline for the same reason in case they do rupture for any reason. the saline is absorbed.

I choose silicone for several reasons after reasearching the new silicone implants. There are videos on YouTube of the being run over by a car and not breaking, also of them being cut open with a knife and squeezed. When the pressure came off, all of the silicone went back in, they are more gel than liquid. The silicone is also more natural in feel and texture.

It is definately a personal choice. Research the pro's and con's and make the choice that is the one YOU are the most comfortable with.

I went with the with the new Mentor  "gummy bear" silicone implants.  If they should rupture it stays whole, think how a gummy bear would be if you cut it in half or squashed it so it doesn't leak into your body.  Silicone has a more natural feel.  Plus they were never able to link the silcone implants to any of the issues women felt they caused after years of studies so I figured they were safe, especially these new ones.

I went with the saline for a couple of reasons. If you have a leak with the saline you know immediately. The breast will just deflate. Also my surgeon said that he wants silicone implants replaced after 10 years regardless. He said the saline could stay in until I knew I had a leak. Another big reason I went for the saline was because I didn't want to have to go for routine MRI's and have to pay for them to make sure the implants were not leaking.

Silicone!!

For the following reasons:
Natural Feel
They will not leak if they do happen to rupture
More durable than saline
I didn't like the thought of having bags of water in my chest

Silicone for sure!!  Feel VERY natural.  I felt a ladies saline ones and you could tell it was saline, not very natural, just like bags of water.  Silicone has greatly improved and are very safe.

I have silicone gel implants, the one known as gummy bears. They don't leak. You cut 'em in half and you just have two halves.

They feel so real no one knows I have them unless I announce it. I chose moderate profile instead of high profile, and I didn't go large because I didn't think it fit with my librarian stereotype, lol.
