Drains....Grrrrrr!
Aloha Fellow Borg Queen Terri!
I will soon feel your pain- and my surgeon does not allow showers while the drains are in either. He places 5 total - 2 from the hips and 3 in the front at the pubis.
Six years ago I had a deep abscess secondary to cellulitis on my abdomen- under my skin but exterior to my abdominal musculature- liters of pus( I know, TMI, but I'm a vet, we deal with pus every day! ). They quickly put me on a Wound Vac, a nifty continuous portable suction device that keeps your pockets empty. They anticipated 8 weeks of drainage, it only took 3.5 weeks with the Wound Vac.
Six weeks seems like a long time to have drains in- they are sure there is no infection? Not overdoing the activity? Maybe ask about a Wound Vac but it seems like now you're pretty close to the end. The other thing you might ask about is the clear adhesive bandage material that enables the Wound Vac to have an airtight seal over your wounds ( it comes in sheets, you cut it to fit over the drain holes/tubes and you can shower then). It's easy on your skin so you can remove and replace daily if needed. I had a trip to Hawaii planned when I had the abscess, and I took that stuff with me and changed it every other day. Swam in the ocean, the pool, wherever I wanted to.
And whine all you want, you definitely have cause. Be well, FBQ- XOXOLori
