Whiny post -- Swell hell at 5 months +

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr . . .

I'm still horribly swollen, five and a half months post op.  I'm seeing my Rny surgeon tomorrow (scheduled followup) and I'm upset that the scale will show a net gain, even though I've been good.

I did read that inadequate protein intake can have an impact on swelling ... and I've been waking up with swollen fingers lately . . . anyone know about this?

Whine whine whine . . . whimper whimper . . . whine.

Actually, what I have read is that you need adequate nutrition to promote healing, whi*****ludes the decrease in swelling.

You might want to also get scheduled for a nutritional consult after you see your surgeon.  AFTER getting pertinent labs done.

BTW, I am having a small Lap Band unfill tomorrow.  While I am healing well from my plastics, my overall level of stress due to unrelated factors has rendered my band from being at sweet spot to being too tight.  So I am sympathetic to your dilemna.

I'm right there with you.  I'm almost 7 months and I still swell although it's mainly in my upper abdomen.  If it's anywhere else, I don't know because its the belly swelling that bothers me the most.  I'm doing all I know to do and that's all I can do.  I can see how protein may impact  you  most during the first few weeks but you are far enough out that I don't think that is actually causing the swelling.  I can guess all day long and never have a solution.  We all heal and recover differently and not everyone has the same amount of swelling.  I am a sweller, plain and simple.  Dr L told me that  some people that he thinks should be swellers are not and some that shouldn't be, are major swellers. So if the good doc doesn't have a "solution", I've just got to learn to tolerate it.  I'm just grateful that it's not as bad as the first few weeks.

Sorry I wasn't much help, but wanted you to know you are not alone.  I think there are lots of folks that swell for a long while that don't post.  I remember one lady posted some after pics at 2 years post op and said that her swelling lasted for 18 months!  Gosh I hope I'm not like her, but you never know.  Sometimes my mind wants to tell me that I'm just fat and not swollen cuz lord know that's how I feel!!  Hang in there!!

P.S.  Sounds like finger swelling may be a different issue.

Grrrr.... agree.  I am 12 months out and don't post alot now.  But I still swell alot.  Everyday I am swollen some where (thighs, butt and belly).  The last couple of days it has been pretty bad.
But then other days there will just be a little swelling.

Sorry for the bad news, but some of us do deal with this longer then others.  Don't know if it is surgical technique, body makeup or both.  But probably a combination.  I am hoping at 18 months I finally get relief.

Hope you get your relief soon.
