Hi!

I am getting ready to have some plastic surgery in North Carolina.  I am unsure what questions to ask.  Also, I am 64 and wonder if my age will be a problem.

Well, I'm not an expert on what to ask, but whatever you think is important to your decision making process is worth asking about. I didn't ask much, because each plastic surgeon went thru his recommendation after speaking to me about what I was hoping to achieve...Of course there will be basic info you want to have...also, if you are healthy, then I don't think your age is a problem, I'm 53 and have done really well with my recovery. Best of luck....Lynette

I think a lot of questions have to do with the type of procedure, but here's a start:

stitches or staples?
Hospital or surgical center?
overnight stay or outpatient?
recovery time?
type & length of time on pain meds?
how long until you can drive?
what supplies do I need to have for after (gauze & tape, Polysporin, etc)
will I have drains, how many?
Will I need (and do you provide) a compression garment?
Are there any meds/vitamins that I need to stop taking before my preocedure?

Good Luck and feel free to take a notebook and write down what the Dr tells you!!

A good PS will want to know why are you having and what do you expect.    I went to a PS that had his own idea what I needed.   Super agressive ideas and me looking like a bikini chickie.

The  PS I selected wanted to understand me 1st as a WL Patient .  .   My reasons were not just hanging skin but also diability issues and pain.     By the way my doctor is well versed in WLS patients.

Noted you had no one respond to a local NC surgeon.   I am in NO Virginia.  Not sure is you would consider traveling.  My PS is Mitchell Krieger.  He has written a book on WLS/PS.   Great experience with him.

Good luck
