Hello,

I figured I would post my question on here being most of you have gone threw this already. I have lost 230 lbs and now its time for plastics so I am wondering what steps I should take, I seen my lap band doc a few weeks ago and he sent over a referal to a plastic surgeon, so do I just go see the plastic surgeon and let them deal with insurance or have you guys learned a better way to go about it?  I dont have rashes which is a bad thing it seems but my skin does hang lower then my pubic area which is another qualification.  thank you for your time and any info you may be able to help me with..  I have stalled out at 230lbs for a few months now and I think thats just where my body is ment to be at which will be lower once the excess skin is gone.

Congrats Kevin !  Some PS will be proactive about going after insurance coverage, but you need to also know what to do.

Check my website for some tips on getitng approval.  There are online resources and links to some of the bigger carriers too.

Hope this helps

No coverage here but I've had friends who had good luck with surgeons getting insurance coverage. It's all a crap shoot. There is a lot of good info on Dr. Lo's site. Good luck.

Good luck and Congrats! This next step is a good one =) It sounds like you will qualify to me.
Turns out I never had any trouble getting approved for what my PS surgeon submitted for, but rather for what my PS WOULD accept in payment from the insurance and ultimately how much work they put into the request and extra fees they said my insurance wouldn't cover including which codes they used and the words 'reconstructive' and 'medically necessary'.
SO, I would definitely go to the referred surgeon and ask point blank
1) do you take my insurance for the procedure(s) I need?
2) How are you going to request approval and for which procedure(s)
3) Will you be asking any out of pocket costs from me in additition to what my insurance pay you for the procedure(s), if so, what will those costs be in full?

Keep us posted! =)
