To do - or not to do - an Anchor Tummy Tuck

I didn't get an anchor when I had my LBL, now when I go in for my thighs I'm going to talk to the doc about adding the vertical cut. I'm ok when standing, but when I sit there is a lot of loose skin between my breasts and belly button that pools around my middle. I like to wear fitted t-shirts so when I sit they stretch out and make me look pregnant. It drives me crazy.  Best of luck with your decision.

For patients with horizontal laxity...i.e. a wide upper abdomen, and anchor can be a good choice.  The tradeoff is the extra scar and the slightly higher chance of healing issues where the 2 incisions meet.

Cases 1,7,9,10, and 13 had upper abdominal laxity and got OK results without an anchor.

Its all about what kind of feelings you have on scar vs. shape.

jody..

i will be having an anchor TT with BL/BA Jan 5th.  I too went thru the same thing..I was totally set on only having the lower TT incision.  My PS explained that I would get much better results from the ancho TT and why.  my reason for not doing it was the scar.  then i thought about why i was concerned about the scar.  i will never wear a bikini, ever.  im 51 and lord would that be a mistake!  i decided that even if i would or could wear one, it would be far and few between.  i wanted to be please the remainder of the time when sitting, standing on how my abd/shape would end up, and the scar was irrelevant then.  i know that i would probably end up with a muffin top if i only went with the traditional cut.

i hope you are able to feel at ease with your decision...

good luck and let us know what you decide!

You have to trust that these guys know what they're doing.  If the surgeon said you would not be happy without the anchor, then he has a reason for saying that.  Mine told me he doesn't like doing the anchor.  I've seen pictures where he had done the anchor and there were problems where the two incisions meet.  I went with no anchor.  I'm happy with my results.  I did get muscle tightening.  I still have some loose skin.
Good luck

Hey Jody!!!  I had an anchor cut TT as a panniculectomy revision - LOVE IT.  I had skin and fat above my belly button and with the anchor, my doc was able to pull in from the sides too - I have a waist!  LOL

As for the scar - I figure 'hey, you're 34, lost 200lbs - who da heyl are you tryna fool with a perfect body?'  Plus - I get a lil street cred for the scar - I can make up some **** about how I got it to be bad...... LMAO - just kidding on that - but really - I don't mind it and being intimate with it ain't EVEN a problem - men don't give a hoot - once your undies come off - it's ALL good to them.....

Anyway - good luck to you - I would say go with the surgeon that saw you in PERSON - pics are great, but ain't nothing like the REAL thing.....

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

The scars for anchor TT can be revised if needed.  I really am so glad I went with the anchor cut.  My BA/BL combined with it really give me a great curvy figure. I can wear anything now and don't have to worry about over-hang when I sit down!!! I also like the fact that I have my real belly button in tact.  Good luck with your descision.

I had the anchor cut and very happy with my results. You can take a look at my pics. I must admit I wish I didn't have the scar down the middle of my stomach but on the flip side I don't have loose skin wether I'm sitting or standing. It's always flat (that is when it's not  swollen. I would say if you don't need it don't get it.. For me I needed it. Again overall I'm very happy with my results and would choose the anchor cut again.

WOW - what a lot of good answers!  I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts and what they had done with theirs.

I will be going to the Dr tomorrow and we'll talk about it again, then.

I know I will need an anchor cut when the time comes.  I can easily pull quite a handul vertically so it needs to be removed.  I don't want extra skin hanging around post-op!!  But since you're a lightweight, you probably don't have near the extra skin that I do.

Good luck with your decision.  Either way I'm so happy for you!!
