infection and drainage

I had a pannulectomy about 6 weeks ago.  A few days before Christmas, two areas that have been hurting got very red and were swollen.  I called and got on an antibiotic.  On Christmas day, there was a lot of drainage - about 6 - 8 oz and it continues to dribble out.  My doc is on vaca.  I feel fine but the drugs are up in a few days and I am not sure I am over the infection.  My doc gets back after New Year.

Has anyone had an infection and is this normal?

Thanks

keep up the antibiotics, I know doctors need vacations too but they need to have someone cover their patients. My doc is on vacation too. I hope everything is ok.

Infection is never a "good thing".  If it persists or your temperature goes up you should call and ask to speak to the surgeon who is covering.  You don't want to mess around with or ignore an infected area.....you don't want the skin to die...it will lead to a bigger problem.

Best wishes!!

The pocket of pus (prob an infected seroma or hematoma  from the time of surgery)  beneath the skin seems to be draining, although your doc needs to assess this. As in yesterday.

Thank you for your comments.  I did see some docs but they were hopeless.  One said to me I would give you antibiotics but I can't see any reason to do it.  I had many of the classic infection symptoms but no red areas.  So, no meds.

I did talk to the nurse today - finally.  I am going on another antibiotic and wearing my compression garments 24/7 again.  Then I see the doc next week.  I don't have a fever anymore so maybe the antibiotics I am on are working a little bit.  I still get so tired however.

I just can't wait until I am totally better.  Then I might really appreciate having this nice flat stomach.  Right now I am just too tired to care.

totally agree  infections are not good and your doctor should have a backup.    If its not healing push for answers.   Friend just found out the left a tube inside.  She has been going thru hell and has been misdiogsed ..   Not trying to scare you but you need to followup with this and keep following up.

Take care and keep in touch

I did talk to the nurse and got new meds.  I am feeling much better with more energy.  The doc wants to see me next week so I guess things are good for now.

Thanks for all your concerns.
