So I saw my surgeon last friday and went and pre-registered at the hospital, and now the panic is setting in, My surgery is 1 week from tomorrow!!! Yikes!! I've got several pairs of soft track/yoga/pajama pants with pockets for the drains...My Doctor told me I'll have 4!  I've got my good lip stuff and I'm going to be staying at my moms (my grandmother lives with her) so meals are covered...is there any other tips or advice that you all could offer? I'm a single mother of a 4 year old roudy boy who will be home for christmas break for at least that first week...Thank God for my mom and Granny! So what say you wise ladies!?

What procedure(s) are you having?

*Take a pen and notebook so you can keep track of things....it's amazing how easily we forget what time we took the last pain pill, or instructions the dr give us.  I used it to also track how I was feeling each day.
*Depending on the procedure if you are doing anything from the waist down get a toilet seat riser!
*Take some good body lotion with you.....anesthesia will dry you up like never before.
*Get a lanyard or something to pin your drains to for when you shower.  When in the shower I used a cheap plastic makeup bag.....I put the drains in the bag then hung it on the string around my neck.....that way they were not in my way while showering and drying.
*Take a good book and a deck of cards....gets boring laying around after a while.
*I always take some protein powder and cereal (fiber one, cheerios) to pick on.
*Be sure to take laxative pills and stool softeners with you...trust me you'll need them.
*Maxi pad to cover the incision line after the steri-strips come off to absorb any leakage.
*Wear your compression garment!  It will help keep swelling down.
*Take your pain meds on schedule the first few days....you'll be glad you did!  Then you can taper off as you get stronger

Best wishes on you surgery and recovery!

PS- I have a long list of tips on my BLOG on my profile...feel free to check it out.

congrats my Okie Friend!  I've been out of the loop for a while so I didn't even know you were getting ready to have surgery!
Listen to Moosie, she knows what she's talking about!  LOL!

I can send my Hubby over to take care of you...You will Love the way he gives meds!  He gave me double the pain meds he was supposed too.  LOL!  I don't really remember the first week.  LOL!

The best advice I can offer you is to start taking stool softeners as soon as you have your surgery.  I had a BAD experience after my RNY so I was really worried about it after my Plastics.  I had NO problems at all!

Week 3 was the hardest for me.  But just a couple of days...Then things got lots better.  I just got tired easy but things were better!

You will do great!  Congrats, I'm so happy for you!

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." Erma Bombeck
