Total congrats on your rock hard abs!  Pilates is definately a more dedicated (commitment) form of exercise than most and I commend anyone for the stamina it requires.

I've read a LOT about bone density in the obese population (in with all the calcium research I've done) and I do disagree with your surgeon on the bone density issue.  But it sounds like he advised you honestly on what he truly believed to be true.

I would have liked to have had my thighs done in with my procedure, but it was too much at one time.  So my thighs will probably never get done because I don't see myself going through another surgery - especially one I've heard is one of the most painful!  (Thighs = OUCH!!!)

My PS said she would rather work with a patient who was still on there "way down" as in 20 pounds.  If patient still had 50 or more to loose she would tell them to wait.

her comment on the 20pds was that if someone is at goal - and then after PS gains (and she said most do as it's hard to maintain goal for life) - the fat that is gained will comeback in some very unsightly places.

so with my panni and lipo -- I will feel so good -- and yes I still want to loose another 20 -- but walking and jogging and laying on my stomach and wearing pants that don't show that unsighlt roll/panni is a dream come true

THERE!  See THAT is a philosphy that I can totally understand & that definately makes sense to me!

While I don't AGREE with that line of thinking (since it is working on people with the assumption that they will regain some & I never like to assume anything negative... if I'm going to assume something, I'd rather assume something positive - especially with something where frame of mind matters so much), I do UNDERSTAND that line of thinking.

Congrats!

Hello again Wendy and Donna too! It seems we are all in the same parameters weight wise. I was 315 pounds and am now 204 at 5'6". My WLS doctor set my goal at below 200 pounds. I will be having an extended TT on 1/18 with Dr. Mitchel Krieger. He feels that by removing this area my metabolism will reset and I will probably lose some additional pounds and give my body a jump start. He figures when all is said and done, I might get down to around 170 pounds.

As an aside I see you are both lap-banders. I discussed possibly unfilling the band before surgery and he doesn't see the need to do so. Only if I have a problem after the TT with keeping any meds, water or food down. Just thought I'd share that tidbit. He believes not undergoing any other procedures unless the situation warrants it.

I did not get anything removed from band with my breast reduction - so I won't do it for this one either - if I can't get meds down, I will but I'll wait and see

Diana,
I didn't get my band emptied for my TT and Brachioplasty, however, I haven't had a fill in over a year and a month, so my band was pretty loose.

12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.

Wendy, I was 15-20 lbs from goal when I started researching PS.  I was stuck around 160, and I had been there at least 3 months.  When I had my consults, ALL the Dr's that I spoke with said the same thing that it was the right time to have my surgeries to get the best results for me.  I had lipo and fat transferred to my butt, and I may not have had enough fat to do that if I would have been at goal.

I am still 15-20 lbs from my personal goal, but I have already achieved my weight loss surgeon goal.  I am currently a size 6, and my goal was to be a size 4.  I don't know if I will need to lose 15-20 more lbs to get to that size 4.  I may only need to lose 5 more lbs and tone up again since I have not been able to work out for the past 2 months.

I have noticed that fat distribution is already different in my body since surgery.  I had 6 lbs of fat removed with lipo, and I can tell exactly where I did not get it.  I have always carried my weight in my belly and face, but now my legs look bigger than the rest of me.  I know that I have lost muscle in my legs since I have been laying around so much post op.

I think everyone has their right to choose when they get their surgeries and know what is right for them based on what the Dr says and what their heart is telling them.

Also, some start researching right when they hit goal because it takes time to find a Dr, get consults, book surgery, and then have surgery.  It could take months to finally get to your surgery date.

I guess it could take a long time in some parts of the country for sure.

I decided to have PS for sure on about 11/01/09 and had my surgery done on 11/19/09 - so it was obviously very quick for me.  But that's because I held off making a decision for sure until the last minute and had done all my research on PS already since my mom was going to have it (and she never would have done the research - so I had to).

I think I might be one of those that fall into the catagory you are questioning...I have an answer and I am not thrilled with my reasons, I do not regret moving forward.
I am only 9 months out from my RNY and just had my Panni removal and TT.  The reason I had to do it now is this: 1. I was 5 pounds from goal 2. I am self-employed and pay my insurance premium myself. 3. My deductable for 09 was met and I am switching to a new plan in 2010 and will hopefully and probably not ever meet my deductable again, so my PS agreed to go ahead with my plastics.  It was really a now or never situation.  If I didnt do it now, I would never be able to afford to do it.  The PS told me to work hard to get to goal prior and to try really hard to maintain this weight for the best results.  I will realistically never be able to do a revision so I am VERY motivated to take care of myself and maintain this.
This is the first time in my life (I mean since I was 14 and started my Yo-yo weightloss and gain) that I have not had an apron-panni hanging.  I am so happy and believe this was the right decision for me.   So that is my story.
