Arm Lift Question

I am trying to plan for next year already.  My HR rep told me my short term disability will not cover time off for plastic surgery.

I am wondering how long were you off work after an arm lift?

What is the average cost of an arm lift?

Just wondering how much vacation time I need to bank.

Thanks for your replies.

Ask her if "Reconstructive surgery" is covered. I know my California SDI doesnt cover plastic but does cover reconstructive....since we are 'reconstructing' our bodies :-)

HHHmmmm . . .I live & work in CA & my HR rep. told me that I WOULD get short term diasabi & that I would be off on a medical leave of absence.

I plan on taking 4 weeks off.

When I told her it was for plastic surgery - she said "sure, we do it all the time"  -  I work at a large hospital.

My DH is taking 4 weeks FMLA from his job to take care of me. I have already taked to my PCP & she said she would do all the paper work for us both.

O.K. - I freaked out a little - so I went to the CA SDi website & plastic surgery IS covered!! Here is what it says

Will SDI benefits cover me if I have elective or cosmetic surgery?
Elective and cosmetic surgeries are covered by SDI. Your doctor must certify that you are disabled and cannot do your regular or customary job duties because of the surgery, and you must meet the basic eligibility requirements.

I think it depends on who your short term disability provider is.  I am going to talk to my HR rep amd see if "reconstructive" surgery is covered.

Maybe the doctor can word it in the right way so they cover my time off.

If I have to take 4 weeks I would like to get paid and not have to use all my vacation time.

I wasn't even thinking that I would need someone to help me either.  I will have to figure that out too.

Christy,

I had my arm lift and back/side fat lift done November 20.  I returned to week this past Monday (December 14).  So I had off 3 weeks.  It was just enough time for me!  I still get tired in the afternoons.  I work in an Elementary school as a computer tech.

I hope that helps.

Christy,

I had an arm lift with breast lift/aug and returned to work in 10 days without problems.  The first few days are rough because you can't move your arms but it's not too bad.

Thanks for all your replies.  The recovery time is less than I expected.  I was thinking 6 weeks.

Hopefully between my year end bonus and tax return I will have enough money to make this happen later in 2010.

I just had an arm lift and tummy tuck last Tuesday (Dec 8th).  I am going back to work Dec. 28th.   Where insurance wouldn't cover it I did not qualify for STD however it does fall under FMLA and then I used my saved PTO.

Everyone is different, but if I would have only had my arms done I probably would have only taken 2 weeks off.   Having the tummy tuck and the arms done at the same time I felt (and my surgeon felt) 3 weeks would be more appropriate.

6 weeks is my restriction before returning to full cardio and weightlifting--but that isn't downtime.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!!
