Had small hernia repair and panniculectomy 2 days ago

I had surgery 10 minutes from my house at Fremont-Rideout Hospital with Dr. Skiles on wed December 16th, 2009. She is a no nonsense upfront qualified surgeon. I had insurance approval for the procedure (bcbs) and was in and out of surgery in 2 and half hours. She removed 8lbs of skin, pulling my skin down as tight as she could with one incision from hip to hip. I have no belly button. I decided I was ok with it after hearing Dr. Skiles opinion that it was safer, that she could take more skin off (extra 2.5 inches) and my tummy would be flatter. Hubby and I decided that could be dealt with later ..(tattoo maybe) if at all. I had a morphine pump in the hospital and stayed overnight. My iv gave me fits as usual, my veins roll..and blow easily so now I am home with liquid vicodin. Seem to be managing fine and it working better than the morphine was. I have two drains and have become a pro at those. My son is taking great care of me while Hubby went back to work today. He has 8 days off to take care of me after today. Merry Christmas to me. :) I am very happy with the job Dr. Skiles did with what I gave her to work with and what insurance would cover. Pictures to come soon.  Have a Merry Christmas!!

I had the same the procedure 16 days ago and am very pleased with my results.  He took 13lbs off.  I also got a brachioplasty done at the same time.  I kept my drains for 10 and 13 days.  I wish now that I didn't have a belly button too!  It would be nice to have a tighter tummy!

I thought I would have psychological issues and made her convince me not to have one but yes, I am glad I don't. Less stitches, areas to worry about infection etc. How is the manuevering in and out of bed/recliner going for you?

It's not easy manuevering out of bed and out of chairs.  I wish I had a recliner!  Having the arms done at the same time is doable, but not easy.

aw, you're sweet. Not feeling super snazzy at the moment. :) I can imagine with sore arms and sore tummy, that takes some creativity. I didn't think I would need the recliner but I am so happy we have one. I stole the hubby's. :)

So cool Linda! hubby was born and raised here too (Michael Houston) he met me while in the air force and brought me out here. I love it! Sutter is a very small town but I like small town (why I live in Live Oak, lol)

Congratulations!  Glad that your procedure went well.  I wish I didn't have a belly button.  There was a post a few days back about how tiny some peoples's was.  Mine is not tiny and it is elongated - I really don't like it at all.   So I'd say you made a good choice.  Merry Christmas to you too!

Dr. Skiles was adament I would thank her after surgery and she was right. =) I like the results anyway! lol, I also found that now I have stopped taking the pain meds I feel even better. They were making my stomach upset. Other than drains that don't bother me, and incision pulling that doesn't hurt..I am just relaxing and enjoying my recovery. Strange, didn't think I would be saying that. Hope it continues like this.
