swelling around incision and legs and ankles
I had a panniculectomy two weeks ago this past Monday and are experiencing some swelling around the knees and ankles and in an area above part of my incision right above the pubic area. It seems to increase after I have been active and on my feet for a few hours. The swelling around the incisicion seems to be very hard. I put pillow under my legs when I sleep or if a seat on the recliner and this helps a little. I hear many of the folks on this site talk about swelling issues and was wondering how long this might last and what I can do to reduce the swelling. Should I be putting ice packs over the incision area that is swollen and hard? Am I to active and is my activity contributing to this issue?

Swelling is normal and activity definitely increases it......But, if it looks red and inflamed at the incision you should let your surgeon know.
Also, after my TT I had a some swelling in my legs (I know other people that had that too) so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
Swelling in your ankle could be something to be concerned about....If I were you I'd just give the office a call and let them know.
Best wishes on your recovery

I couldn't see my ankle bones for a few days there, but they are back, and I think for good now. I started back to work yesterday and have to remind myself to get up and walk around for a bit every hour or so. I saw my surgeon for my 4 week check up this morning and he said that everything looked great. So I will see him again in 2 months. No gym for another two weeks though. sigh..I feel great, what a difference a couple of weeks make.
