Before TT Surgery....

Is it recommended to get your abs in the best possible shape before surgery?  I am having a TT with MT on January 15th.  I have gotten out of my exercise routine (bad me) and was wondering if I needed to get my abs back in some reasonable shape beforehand.

Does it help you heal better?

Thanks

It's not going to hurt you to do it. My abs were good but he still did the MT. I would say it's probably better to get your legs in shape. You will be compensating for not being able to bend or use your core and legs were a big thing. If you need to get something that has fallen you'll be doing a lot of squats. I think the better shape you are in the better or quicker you will heal or start to feel normal again.

My legs are in good shape - I have done a lot of elliptical and treadmill, and will continue with that - but haven't done any stomach specific type of exercises.

I was thinking about joining a gym for a month go get some specialized help if needed...

It's always good to have a strong core but it's not absolutely necessary to do ab workouts prior to a tummy tuck. I had only been walking before mine, no strength training and when he did the muscle tightening I ended up with  abs of steel. I never discourage anyone from exercising but I'm just saying that you can end up with very tight abs just from the surgery.

Thanks Renee - I just wasnt' sure if it would help the healing if I was already in decent shape or not.... my muscles aren't terrible now....

Thanks Jody for posting this question. I'm having an extended TT on January 18th and was wondering the same thing. You guys are great with all of the information and support you give. Thanks.

Hi Diana!!  Yes - this board is great and I know I've got MORE questions before then too!

I used to live in Falls Church, and my boyfriend lives in Stafford... I may be moving back out that way again sometime next year.  I had my WLS in Fairfax.

Who is doing your surgery?

Hi again Jody,

Dr. Mitchel D. Krieger is doing my TT. Small world that your BF lives in Stafford, I technically do also. You're brave being out in Mi in the winter! All the best in your upcoming surgery.

Hi Jody...we are almost surgery buddies! I'm having my LBL and BL on January 14th!  Good luck with your surgeries!  My stomach muscles are terrible from my two c-sections...but I work out cardio and weights for back, legs and arms...so I'm hoping that will help compensate since I won't be able to use my stomach...and hopefully the muscle tightening will finally help my stomach!!  LOL!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!  I wanted the LBL,  BL/BA and medial thigh lift all at the same time, but somehow money (or the lack of) got in the way.  Insurance is taking care of most of the TT - so I'm going to get that done....

I wasnt' going to get the MT done, but the surgeon convinced me of it - and it doesn't cost any more or any less if you do/don't do it....
