Last Drain Finally Gone!

Went to see my surgeon today, as the last couple days have been pretty rough with my lone last drain.  Lots of pain and irritation, trouble sleeping, redness in the area.  It's been 6 weeks 2 days since surgery.  She took a look, and even though my drain totals are still a bit over her comfort level I she decided it was best to pull it.  It feels wonderful to be free of it!  Just have to be sure to wear my binder and spanx like a good girl for a bit to try and prevent seroma formation.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!  I'm ready to totally heal!

Oh wow - 6 weeks and it just came out.  Congratulations!!  I bet you feel SOOO much better and freer now!!   Yep, the binder and compression garments are a breeze compared to having drains!  Good luck on your healing!!

Hi
WOW 6 weeks with a drain is a looooong time...bless your heart!
I'm going tomorrow to get one unclogged so i'm sure I'll be stuck with it for at least another week but I hope the other one can come out.  It's not that they hurt but they are such an annoyance hanging from the body.

Glad you are healing!
Best wishes.

I'm glad that you posted this.  I was just wondering about how long the drain can be in.  I had my TT/hernia repair on Nov. 11.  I left with two drains.  The first was pulled out at the one week appointment.  The surgeon said it was just a back up for the first and draining the same area.  However, the one left in is still collecting about 50cc a day so he left it in for another week.  I was expecting a long time because I had a drain from my open RNY for 21 days.  I'm just hoping that it can be removed next week.  Everytime I think that it is slowing the next day makes up for it.  I'm just a bit tired of having it hanging there.  However, I certainly don't want a seroma to develop.  They already drained a hematoma and some fluid at the site of the first drain.

However, I'm really satisified that the hernia is gone and I don't look six months pregnant any more.  And I don't remember my stomach ever being so flat.  The surgeon is very pleased and asked if I would be at the next bariatric support group when he presented his information.  The other thing is that eventually my tummy tuck with Fleur di leis incision will be on the web, as part of a followup for bariatric surgery.
