Of course they are normal concerns. Concerns you would have with any surgery...not just plastics.
I have zero complications after my Breast Reduction, my Brachioplasty, and my Tummy Tuck. I'm only 1 week out from my lower body lift and it's been a little harder on me but I'm not having anything you can really call "complications".....drain issues are normal...even some incisions opening is fairly common although I thank God I've never had that happen to me.
You overall health going into the surgery will play a big part on your recovery and healing so do what you can now to improve your recovery! Load up on protein...take the right vitamins....exercise and build your strength.
Hope that helps!
Best wishes on your journey....you'll be happy you did it.

I'm a little over 3 weeks out from LBL and BL/BA and have had no complications or problems whatsoever. I wouldn't call the first few days "fun" but truthfully it has not been as miserable as I expected. I seem to be the oddball, the BL/BA portion is what is and has been more painful, in comparison to the LBL. I have been quite surprised at that since I had read EVERYWHERE that the BL/BA would seem like nothing - goes to show how different we all are!
Anyway - totally normal feelings. I was nervous. Wondered if I should cancel in case I was in that percentage who had complications or worse did not make it off the table and home to my kids. I think it is just natural to worry about it. Good luck to you - wishing you a nice outcome and problem-free recovery. :-)

Another way to look at it is to ask an experienced surgeon who is a recognized expert in the field, and has an experience far exceeding everyone else. Such a surgeon is Dr J. Capella, who in 2006 had a series of 200 cases.
His published complication rate was 50% overall.

Please realize this number in no way represents the "skill" (or lack thereof) of the surgeon, although that is the first thing I will hear patients say when discussing complications.
It is simply the nature of such a large and involved procedure. Complications happen, the key is to have your surgeon on hand to treat them in the weeks and months after surgery, which is when they often occur and require care.

I had no complications. I spent a night in the hospital, went home less than 24 hours after surgery, had the last of my four drains removed on Day 14, had very little swelling, no wound separations and no revisions.

I had a LBL and BL on Dec.1 and have had no complications whatesoever, I'm even off all meds for the surgery.
My only words of wisdom is drink tons of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Between the meds for the PS and the supplements for my RNY (2 years ago) I became very constipated and my BM were very hard. I was taking a stool softner and that didn't seem to help but I noticed the more water and juice I drank the better things turned out, it also seem to help with the swelling.
Good Luck
