How did you justify your surgery?

Ok, think of it like a new car - except that you will be driving this one for the rest of your life!! Or that you aren't even getting a new car, but getting new upholstery and paint job on the reliable car sitting in the driveway! I'm sure that you are giving something that you "could have" spent the money on - a vacation, a couple more years or mortgage payments, whatever... I tend to consider it an investment in myself. A huge bonus is that you will feel so much better about yourself and hubby will definitely reap the benefits of a happier wife!
hmm...I have not had plastics yet and I am new to this forum, so not sure if my words will come out right, but here goes, I went through wls, then gall bladder removal, all in this year, I am having considerable pain in my middle back from my large, but now deflated breasts hanging so much, I get rashes where my stomach meets my thights, so for me it's not so much justifying surgery as it is another step on the weight loss journey, or as my wl surgeon said, once you lose the weight and than have plastics you will be as good as new again!...have I said I love my wl surgeon? I do! LOL
I looked at it as I was finally doing something for myself. I am a mom to 4 kids (13, 12, 4 and 3). I rarely buy things for myself, it's always for my hubby or the kids. My hubby was also a Marine for almost 14 years and I had to put up with that. He just got out in Sept. So I finally did something for me. My RNY was covered by insurance and they were supposed to cover my tt and breast lift, but we got out before I could get them. So I put myself first for once. :) I also looked at it as I worked hard and changed my whole lifestyle to get where I am after my RNY, I need to fini**** and feel good about myself. I was always happy I finally lost the weight, but when I looked in the mirror I still hated "myself". Now I am totally happy since my tt. My breast lift is tomorrow and I can't wait.
Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!

I'll admit that that was a hard one for me too - especially as a wife and mother who could definately have put that money elsewhere.
But you know what, I deserve it.
I have lived with obesity ravaging my life for years. I had the courage and determination to overcome it. I'm finally living the best life I can live. That deserves a celebration/treat of sorts.
Not only that, but most of us who've had WLS were so overweight that obesity has actually damaged our skin along with the rest of our bodies. If you had had cancer that caused you to have one or both of your breasts maimed or removed, would you feel guilty about having reconstructive surgery? None of us would. Insurance companies perpetuate the myth that PS is not medically necessary after massive amounts of weight loss. I disagree. In most cases, our surgeries are JUST as "reconstructive" as someone who has lost one or both breasts to cancer. If any of you had seen my breasts before my BA/BL, none of you would argue that.

Only you can decide what justifies ANY surgery or modification of your body. It depends on what is important to you.
My feeling is, you don't owe an explanation to anyone but your husband (and I know that others disagree on even THAT point) so . . . you don't need to worry about what others think.
And until you know for sure what YOU think, you should wait.
