After my LBL I was given dilaudid to start but it drove me crazy.  I actually had weird dreams and just didn't like the feeling.  My PS switched me to percocet which I started by taking every 2 hours.. then moved to 4.  I went from that to Norco which is a high dose of the narcotic in Vicodin with a lower does of the acetaminophen.

After my BL/BA and brach, I went with percocet for a few days then to the Norco.  Same thing with my thigh lift.

My PS was really cool about being open about pain killers.  My mom and I used to the same PS (she had her surgery exactly a week before mine).

He went over pain meds at our last pre-op visit prior to surgery.  He was going to give us demerol/vicoden.  My mom said that that had never worked for her and asked him for oxycontin (again, sorry for what I'm sure is a butchered spelling) and he gave her that instead.

I took the vicoden, but it didn't seem to help much.  So I took one of my mom's oxycontin which did work.  I called him and then he called me in some oxycontin so I continued my pain management with that instead.  (It also seemed to constipate me less so that was a plus.  I never had to deal with any constipation post-op until I had to take those painkillers.)

You may want to go ahead and have some colace on hand.  I took that for the first time ever as a post-op when I was on the painkillers.  I know many post-ops are constipated often but I never was.  So if you have or have had problems already with that, you will REALLY want to have some colace on hand for the painkiller period.

Good lucK!!!

I am on Percoset. I am 5 days PO and went last night from 7:30pm until this morning at 6:30 with nothing...MISTAKE. I was VERY uncomfortable, and then I took one with out eating and now I am nautious, but the pain is gone.  I was doing good alternating every 4 hours one percoset and then 2 extra strength tylenol.  I will use this regimen again today.  The first 2 days I was doing 2 percoset every 5 hours.  Blessings to you.

I took percocets every 3.5 hours.  Kept me very comfortable and allowed me to get sleep a couple of hours at a time.

I had been told ahead of time that my doc only gives you tylenol or ibuprphen once you are in the hotel...so to be on the safe side and knowing I am a pain-wimp, I brought along some vicodin from a past surgery.

I took one only once and it made me feel like I was having a heart attack. I sat up and started burping like a sailor!! DEEP, full hard burps. Once that passed, and it took a while, I was ok but decided no more!! I only took Ibuprophen after that and it was all I needed. And I had lots of work at once...so you just may be surprised how little actual PAIN you have. The discomfort is a combination of those damn drains and the nudgy feeling from the incisions. Ibu is an antiflammatory...and things are inflamed. So, it works.

And about the holidays...I got home on the 21st of Nov and had a houseful for Thanksgiving...doing it all myself...cooking, cleaning, baking, shopping. I managed. You will too. Especially if you have family to assist. I didnt.

Good luck, and dont worry. In the long run, it is so worth it.

Soapy say it aint so - Dr. Sauceda only gives you ibu or Tylenol once out of the clinic???  I needed the vicodin for 2 weeks after my VSG, Ibu and Tylenol don't do crap for me.

That's the same thing i was thinking. I was going to enjoy my pain meds. The only other time i have ever taken pain meds was in 2000 for breast aug, and i enjoyed them.
