Being away from home didnt bother me...But i also had my RNY done in Mexico.  I was there for 14 full days and that was perfect for me. As he took the last drain out the night before i left.  I was looking forward to going home.   The facitities at the hotel are really nice i had nothing to complain about.   And as for food..the hotel serves breaky every morning and i would always go down for breakfast, after i had been at starbucks!!  There is a starbucks in the next lot, along with a Mcdonalds and a Applebees.  THere is a grocery store right close by a HEB which has anything you need.   There is a big shopping mall just a 5 min taxi ride away.
I think your room will have a fridge a small one. You would have to ask Teri or Kat or Fab about that.
You can bring anyone you want with you... I brought my daughter and grandbaby. And a week later my husband flew up there to.   And if you have to you can easily go alone.  Nurse Patty comes to your room every morning to help you shower and all that. Dr S comes every day to check up on you.   And i found the hotel staff most helpful.
If you need to know anything else just ask... I had a great time there and would go back

Hi...Teri here. Been home 2 weeks and MISS MEX!! It was just fine going alone. For one thing, you are almost guaranteed to have at least one person from HERE there with you for at least part of your recovery.

When I got there on a Sunday night (for Mon AM Surgery) Fab was 5 days out. I met her face to face at the breakfast bar in the hotel before Dr S came to get me for my surgery. Two days later, she came to the clinic to visit me. The next afternoon, I was at the hotel and Fab and I went to the HEB to get some food for the fridges. (just let the front desk know you need one...it will come promptly)

The rest of the time, Fab and I hung out alot and a day or 2 later, Kat came. We were the 3 musketeers until Fab went home. (Sad day...we missed her) Then Tammy came.  So, you see, there is a constant overlap of people coming and going. You will likely only be alone when you chose to be. There are times you are just tired or wanna chill alone...and you do it.

There was not a thing to worry about, going alone. Many have done it, and I dont think anyone regrets it.

As much as I wanted to get home, I didnt want to leave.

Hope this helps alleviate your fears.

Soapy

PS...Hi Lenora!!! Didja find anything out abou that situation we talked about the other day?

I'm here alone.
I walked to the HEB market today to get cheese, a knife, pineapple, soy milk and bread.  I hope it wasn't too heavy.  I had them put it two bags.  I am having a fine time alone.  I was a little sad the 2nd day because I couldn't get internet connection and I cried.  But now that I have contact with my daughter I am fine.
Klynee, Tammy and Heather will be here with me by the end of the week.  Klynee's Mom has been a big help.  She told me out to take the short cut to the market.  I have a refrigerator in my room and Patty came this morning at 8am to help me shower and change my dressings.  Dr. Sauceda was here promptly at noon to check up on me.  AND breakfast this am was very good.
Anything I need, I ask for and I get.  It's been good so far!

Glad to hear from you Dee!! Just out of curiosity, what was up with the internet? I want to be prepared because I think I would have a melt down without it!!

I had a melt down!  IF it hadn't been for Klynee's Mom, Wanda, I wouldn't have gotten the internet.  I guess it was down on Thursday and the guy never came in the morning as promised. He came on Friday, but I wasn't informed it was fixed - then on Saturday Wanda got the passcode and we were up and running.

I cried Friday night a lot because I was so lonely!

That's the downside of being alone.

NO, he doesn't pay for your flight upfront.  You have to buy your own ticket and then he reimburses you.  You ask him if he wants you to subtract the amount from your surgery charge.
