Dr. L - ? breast auto augmentation

I've had a few people PM me to ask  about auto augmentation instead of implants and want to know more about this as an option.  I was hoping maybe you could better explain how it is done, why it might be done and the expected results.

I had auto aug because my HMO paid for the lift, and their policy is that they only use implants for breast reconstruction post breast disease. I didn't want to be an A cup and my surgeon didn't want to leave me that way, and opted to do auto aug in a size that suited my frame and told me that I could do implants later elsewhere, but gave me reasons why I might not want to do that.  I know that it isn't want some would want, but it does work for me.  I would like more fullness at the top, but have decided to just leave things as they are.

Would you mind going over the pros and cons?

Thanks so much -

I had it.  No cons, just pros.  It adds fullness to the upper part of the breast.  If you have adequate breast tissue left then it's a good alternative to implants.  I was a DDD before my BL and I'm a D today.

Isn't it different when you already have sufficient breast tissue for the breast as opposed to using the tissue from under the arm and side boob and in some cases the back?  So if you were a DDD before then I'm assuming you had sufficient tissue to make you a D or did the tissue come from somehwere else?

I believe the tissue was taken from the side boob area.  I also had lower boob tissue removed.    Even when I wasw 18 my boobs didn't look this good.....

I had very little breast tissue, no fat and lots of skin.  I know they used some of the tissue related to my LBL and BL and did some type of spiral flap - not really sure what all that entails.  I have very little fullness at the top because I had so little tissue.  I had been a DDD and am now a small D at Victoria Secret, but a C most other places.  I'm very muscular in my chest and arms. I do have defined pecs - but no extra fat or tissue to fill out my breasts.  In moving the fat/tissue, I have a pretty good shape and fullness, but not in the upper portion.  Sometimes, I get breast envy with that, but not enough to get implants. I have really thin tissues and skin. Most of the surgeons I saw felt that the implant would have to go below the muscle and because of the continued laxity in my skin, I would have the "snoopy dog nose" deformity before too long.  I've consulted with 5, and all but one has said not a good idea for me.  It might be different now that I've had the 4-8 inches of excess skin removed down each of my sides and my breasts seem much firmer and fuller.  The flank removal has helped with that more than I thought.

Also, my surgeon could not use implants due to the policy of my HMO, so with all that in mind, I'm pretty happy.  It's good to know there is an option in these kinds of cases.

I know Dr L does not normally recommend breast auto augmentation for a couple of reasons.  At least not in my case.  Maybe it depends on the condition and shape of the breast??   I know he didn't recommend doing it for my stage 2 surgery when I do my arms and side boobs in January.  I had a lift almost 6 months ago and I just wish I had more fullness at top but I don't want implants either.  Guess I'll have to be happy with what I got!

My local PS said he wouldn't do it. He said something about there's not enough research and the likelihood of developing and/or detecting brast cancer in the future. Wish I had more info for you, but it was along those lines.

After my recent re-lifting of the girls I'm left rather hollow on the top of the breasts.  I've been doing research on options and most everything I read says not to transfer fat into the breasts because it can cause problems detecting cancer.....guess it interferes with the mammo.

I don't want an implant and will be asking my surgeon what he suggests for filling them out again.
