I had my surgery on 11/4.  The doctor said to remove the bandages the next day and that compression garments were necessary.  That's what I did.  My arms looked awful the first day but everyday I could see the bruising fading and most of the swelling is gone.  The doctor said I'd think the swelling was gone in about a month but he said it actually takes about 3 months.

I had one of the biggest brachioplasties I have seen here, and no, I didn't wear a compression garment-- it was overly tight and the seams hurt. I did wrap my arms in ace bandages for about a month, and supported the scarline with hypafix tape-- and my arms are great.  The scars are dark, but I am naturally a tough scar-er, and tend to keloid, and this looks pretty good.
