I had a panniculectomy with the anchor cut done 3 weeks ago.  I was amazed by how little pain I had.  The Dr said it was because he didn't do anyting with the muscles.  I took the pain meds when I got home every 4-6 hours for the first 2 days, to keep it at bay, but I didn't need any at all by day 3.
Good Luck

I had a hip to hip tummy tuck and they cut off 15 pounds of skin and fat.  I had the on Q pain pump.  It gave medicine for about 3 days.  My doctor gave me the option of refilling it for $100.  I refilled it.  I am glad I had it.  I believe that it really eased some of the pain. It is non narcotic.  but it sure did help.  I recommend it.
2 weeks after the tummy tuck they did a breast lift and reduction.  I have no pain pump and I think it hurt every bit as much as the tummy tuck.
I took out the two catheters for the pain pump.  Absolutely no feeling or sensation in removing them.  Good luck.

I had one for my hernia repair, but not for my panni.  Honestly, since there was no muscle-cutting involved with the panni, I had very little pain after the first day or so (and it was managed just fine with vicodin after the first 24 hours).  I have never heard of one of the pumps lasting 4-5 days... ity's usually only up to 3.  Yes, you can easily pull the small catheters out yourself.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the pain ball for a panni.  I am a baby about pain, but the panni removal was easy (pain wise).
