Follow ups after having PS out of country

I know I've seen posts about this subject before but I can't seem to find the information I'm looking for.

For those of you who have travelled out of the courntry, what kind of follow ups are you getting?

Are you just visiting your PCP?

Did you work with your PCP prior to leaving?  If so, what kind of information do they need?

I had a complete physical including blood work by my PCP and he will be following up with me when I get home from MX.  He's wonderful and totally understands why I am going out of the country.  Unfortunately, other doctors in my life aren't so nice about it!

Is a complete physical standard before PS?  I just had one earlier this year and got A+ from my doc.  Maybe I could go just for a checkup physical?

I can't answer out-of-country questions, BUT ...

I was required to have a complete workup/physical within two weeks of the procedure.  I think I have read elsewhere that this varies depending on the age of the patient, and the procedure to be performed.

I have already e-mailed my PCP - and my surgeries are not until May!

She is 100 % supportive. She will order all the pre-op lab tests & EKG - she will do the physical & she will even complete my disability paper work so I can get paid!

I sent her the name of the PS's & the recovery inn I will be staying at.

Are most PCP familiar with the pre-op work for PS?  Or might I have to educate mine?

Absolutley!! I'm not sure what type of relationship you have with your PCP - but mine & my husbands is great! We e-mail her & she gets back to us quickly.

She is very excited about my upcoming sugery & is glad that we are being pro-active. ie) getting a physical prior to surgery.

I just saw my PCP on Monday and he is nearly as excited as I am about the prospect of surgery in Mexico. In fact, he wants me to give him as much information about the trip and process as I am able so he can pass the info on to other WLS patients in his practice who need plastics.

He ordered my needed blood work and is anxious to have me visit him once I am back home, whether I have any problems or not. Obviously, it helps to have a PCP who is supportive and on-board to begin with...if you have that, routine follow-ups with them shouldn't be a problem.

If I decide to go the Mexico/DrS route I hope my PCP will be like yours!

I have to admit...I've been incredibly lucky! He has supported me throughout this entire journey. I wish you the same luck I have had...no matter what route you choose.
