After I loose my weight, I would like to donate the skin to be used for burn pat. or some other way that it is needed.  Has anyone ever looked into this?  I would love to  hear from you. Gena

Evidently there are some uses for our skin.  Take a look at this thread and Dr. LoMonaco's response.

I contacted MTF and they were not very helpful to me. Unfortunately no one got back to be before my surgery. Good luck to you.

My sugeon routinely donates the tissue to the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation.  Their website is www.mtf.org .  They were a little difficult to deal with, but I was able to specify if I wanted it used for research, patient use, or both.  They do a lengthy telephone interview pre-op to get your history & to make sure you are a suitable donor.  They take several vials of blood right before surgery for testing.  They pick up the skin from the place where you have your surgery by courier.  I never did find out how much tissue they got from me, but it was a significant amount.  I'm glad I was able to help someone or several someones with my donation.

Hugs,
