LBL on Monday

If all goes well, I'll be having LBL on Monday.  I have a question about the stool softeners... when do I start taking them (don't want to have an accident on the operating table:-) before or after ther surgery.  Also, when I take the Dulcolax, do I also take Miralax or does the Dulcolax do it all?
Thanks - any other advice is also appreciated.

I did bowel prep pre-op because of my hernia repair.

Post-op it was about 5 or 6 days before I had a BM, but I started taking stool softeners as soon as I got home from the hospital. The pain killers can be constipating. And let me tell you, I am so glad I took stool softeners because it made the BMs very easy to deal with when I couldn't even sit on the toilet (I am a champion of squating now!) and had no strength in my stomach muscles. I think I took 2 stool softeners a day day, morning and evening. I stopped taking them once I was back on my full vitamin routine, regular eating and was able to sit ok.

I've been thinking about you! I saw Dr. S on Fri and I love him more every time I see him. You are in great hands L and it's going to go great!

You're a life saver, as always.  I'm feeling much better (cold wise) than I did last week.  I'm looking forward to having this over with.  I have much confidence in our Dr. S.
Hey, btw - when you went to buy the dress, did you still have any swelling?  I'm thinking you were about 6 weeks out of surgery (which will be mid-December for me).
Thanks again.

I was 5 weeks last Thursday and the only real swelling I've had has been on my mons area below the biniki line incision. My abdomen is still very very numb and i am still a bit numb across the butt incision line. I think we may have less swelling then other people here because of no lipo, that's just a guess, I could be wrong.

Either way the binder gives you a nice shape =) He only asks us to use the binder for 6 weeks, but I plan to use it a bit longer, until my little spot heals up.

NOW I'm getting excited.  I will be able to shop for my Christmas dress that soon.  I hope they still have some selection out there:-)

Hi Lorraine

Dr S told me to use milk of magnesia the first round but this was like almost a week after surgery and it took quite a bit of 'doing' before I finally went. The second I started taking doses of milk of magnesia the day after surgery and I had no problems. I took it everyday for about week just in case.

God speed on your PS journey!

Antonette,
Is that the liquid form of Milk of Magnesia?  I've never tried it.

12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.

Any time I've used MOM I always use the chewables... I tried the liquid form once and it made me gag big time - just the smell of it is bad.

Thanks Antonette... I do like MOM (the tablets).  My grandmother used to give that to me when I was a little girl.

leche de magnesia to be exact.  dr s wrote it out for me in spanish so when i went to the heb they would know what i was talking about.
it was the liquid. i imagine the tablets work just as well though.
