After care from surgery abroad
Well, I'm having my surgery in MX in December. I am required to stay for 14 days. By the time, I leave, I am hoping to have my stitches and drains out. If not, I've set up aftercare with my PCP here in Denver.
My plastics is not covered by my insurance. It's a cash only deal. So if there are complications while I'm there in MX, I will be responsible for paying for them.
Once I return home, it's my understanding that if there are complications, my insurance will cover the care. I've checked on this already. I know each insurance plan is different, but that is how mine works.
I hope that helps.

12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
I am leaving for Mex next Sunday and have spoken to my PCP about aftercare. He is excited for me on this and happy to do the stitches or drain removal if nec. I do have a suture set and could do my own, but behind me is a tough location, so if somthing out of reach needs attention, I will go see him. He wants to see how I look anyway...so that is good.
I can only assume my insurance will cover any complications...I did not check, nor will I. Just blind faith that all will be fine. Once I get home, I think they will cover whatever comes down the pike...because they paid for all of my pre-DS stuff but didnt cover the procedure.
You could call to see if covers things that could come up. If it gives you peace of mind, go for it.
Good luck!!

My insurance pays for any complications because it's billed as "wound care" or something like that on the billing codes. For instance, I go to my PCP for better pain meds (german docs are freaking insane about not giving you very good meds after you leave - while ur in the hospital, they are great though!) - it's only billed as "sick call doctors consultation visit". Also, when I went to the nurse's station to get the stitches out and they cleaned an open area, it was just called "hospital discharge follow-up visit".
It all depends on your insurance though.
Good luck!
