What did you tell folks at your job?
That's what he's gonna do for me when I do my arms too. I had my surgery in June and he really wants to continue working with me for the rest of my surgeries and will honor the resident prices as well. I'm glad he stayed on with Baylor. I told him he must have been one of the best if they chose to keep him!
Unfortunately, I don't have to tell them anything - I work with my sister and she tells everyone!! When I went for my RNY, I told her i didn't expect her to lie. I guess I should have said but unless anyone is pressing you, I would prefer to keep it to myself. I work in an office with about 100 people - it's very "small town" (having grown up in a small town, I realize that everyone knows everything about everyone). This time I'm going off, my supervisors asked me if it was related to the other surgery and I said "Yes, the last surgery was for my physical state and this one is for my mental state". Yesterday my immediate supervisor asked a few more questions - but only because she is interested - she would have been fine with "I prefer not to discuss it", but I like her and did not mind informing her. You never know what will happen or how I will feel when I get back and I may need her in my corner. In the end, you have to do what feels right for YOU.
Best of luck with everything.

What I did was report to HQ that I was going to be out for 'reconstructive surgery" - no details past that. I also executed the Family Medical Leave Act memo saying I was out for reconstructive surgery of self. Reconstruction doesn't sound too "optional" and FMLA provides that you WILL have a job when you return and they can't hold it against you for being gone for a period of time.
Now my local office knows I'm off to become "frankenstien barbie" as they've come up with to nick-named my procedures but anytime anyone from higher inquires (for those that don't know) I'm just out for "some surgery, don't know the details for sure". (I work in an office with a dozen guys all old enough to be my father so they tend to all look at me like a daughter.)
HQ does know it's "something to do with my arms" so they can understand why I'm not back at work using computers too quickly, but other than that, they are pretty much in the dark. With the FMLA in place, they also can't inquire too much and I'm not obligated to tell them.

Hello,
I tottally agree with antonette, you do not owe them that personal information on the legists of your weight loss. They are not goint to tell you all of their life stories so you are not required to share. I am also a federal govt employee and i did not get hired on my weight loss information so I owe them notta. so enjoy your life and be happy and you are beutiful. Hope this help and again your job is based upon your job requirements and your participation and dedication to your job and mine is to my patients as their nurse. That is all that I owe them and they of course owe me my pay check !!!!
Take Care and continued success,
Kimmee

My boss knows why I'm going to be out, but when anyone else asks, I just say I'm going to be out for abdominal surgery. Figured that would cover me for when I go back to work (desk job but lots of walking around the building to other people's desks) in case I can't stand all the way straight yet when I go back.

Ok, no disrespect when i ask this. Why if you have been there for 5 years are you and your boss the only two people that can do the EOM? What happen to Crosstraining employees _so that the job will get done if someone is not there. just two people doing the job is kinda scary. What if something happen medically (GOD, ALLAH, BUDDAH, HIGHER POWER,________________, insert yours here) or anyother way to you and your boss. what will happen to eom then?
Your faith is stronger than you think. - my Mom

My boss and I are the only two degreed Accountants and our month end close is very detailed and pretty intense. I believe it is way to much for our A/P and A/R ladies to handle. We are each others back up. I'm sure that if something were to happen to both of us at the same time that Corporate would probably have to get one of the Accountants from another one of our regions to pitch in.
I'm scheduling my date so that I'll at least finish up one month and if all goes well, I will be back a few days into the next close period. I can do a lot of the work from home and will make that offer to her.
