What did you tell folks at your job?

OK, so I've been lurking here for a while gathering info.  Now it's almost time for me to have my PS done.  My date has been tentatively set for mid-November.   I'm having an upper body lift, breast lift, batwing removal and inner thigh lift done all at the same time.  I anticipate being off work at least 3 weeks, possibly 4.

My dilemma is what to tell my job (specifically my boss).  She already knows that I've had a hysterectomy so I can't use that one.    I don't want a lot of questions and conversations about it and would just like to go and come back and no one really knowing what I had done.

I have a pretty high pressure job with very strict deadlines for end of month so I'm trying to plan my time off around that.  My boss and I are the only 2 people in my office who know how to do month end close so if I'm out, she'll have to do it all by herself.  I already know these will be her concerns when I go in to discuss this with her and she's gonna want some kind of explanation.

I told them the truth. But I've been up front w/ every surgery I had w/ my RNY and now my plastics. You may be surprised. They saw me thru this entire journey and were very supportive and even excited for me to be able to do this.

I had my RNY 8 years ago and I've been with this company for 5 years.  I was already done loosing weight when I started working here so they only know the 180 lb. me not the 290 lb me.

You are not required to tell them what you are having done. You can tell them that you are having a medical procedure and that you feel it is confidential and you do not wish to discuss it.  I believe it is very considerate of you to have it done during the middle of the month since you know EOM is tough.  I scheduled mine last surgery right after month end.  The doctor I used is a regular doc and a PS. I had them to write my "excuse" on the regular/generic letterhead.  Good luck to you Theresa. I am excited to see your results.

Thanks Faith!  I don't hide my WLS, as a matter of fact, I recommended a lady here to my surgeon an she has had the RNY done by him.  I just don't engage in all the "water cooler" conversations and don't want to be asked a million questions by everybody in the office.  I like  your suggestions.

purpletb, I'm in the exact same boat as you in regards to work, so definitely also interested in responses/suggestions you receive.

Not sure if you have the HIPPA law in your state, but we do in CA.  No one at your employment has the right to know your illness.  You can tell them you are off for anything...migraine, swollen foot etc.

ha ha ha....my right knee went out last week!  I could use knee surgey as an excuse, HUH?  Yes, we have HIPPA  laws here in Texas.  It's just that our office is small and everybody is so open and talkative about their personal lives.  I ususally don't engage in too many personal conversations but my boss acts like the world will end if I'm not there to do month end close!  I don't want her to think I skipped out on doing it because of a migraine, swollen foot - LOL!

I told them it was for "wear and tear repair" and that it would require 6-8 weeks out (for my LBL). They probably think knee or hip replacement.

It didn't matter anyway, because on Tuesday, they laid me off -- which I was mostly expecting (my biotech company just got bought by a big pharma, and I am the head of the patent group -- they didn't need someone at my level in their group).  So now, it doesn't matter!

WOW...that's something!  My company had a few lay-offs about a year ago.  I hope that they still "need me" when I'm done with all this.
