silicone sheets, creams, and scar B gone

Okay, I totally made up scar B gone, but I was wondering what everyone has used for scar reducition.

Did you use silicone sheets and/or gells? Did they help? When did you start using them?

Did you use some other method for scar reduction like those weird roller things??

When were your scars worst, and when did they begin to fade?

Thanks!

Kat

I used Mederma and CVS silicone sheets (cut in half lengthwise) on my breasts after my reduction last year.  I was THRILLED with the results....I ended up with the flattest incision (from the silicone strips) and they are almost invisible.

I used Scar Zone after my brachioplasty but had trouble with the silicone sheets because they would not stay on (very frustrating).  My incisions are slightly raised, thicker, and redder (very disappointing).  I'm not overly freaked out about it because I know I'm having another revision done on the arms so the incision will be cut out. Next time I will use compression garments on the arms to help hold on silicone sheets to flatten the incision and I'll go back to Mederma.

I'm 4 weeks out from my TT and plan on using silicone sheets and Mederma as soon as the surgeon says I can (I think it will be within 2 weeks).

OH......for me the real redness started to disappear around 4 or 5 months out.....by 6 months out the breasts incisions were pretty much gone and at 9 months totally faded....just a very thin flesh colored line.

Best wishes on your recovery

Thanks so much Ruth!! I'm glad to hear they helped. I needed to justify paying for them. NOT CHEAP!! LOL! Anyway, did you wear the sheets 24 hours a day, or did you do the cream during the day and the silicone sheets at night?

Thanks again!

Hello again.
I would put the mederma on...wait about 5 mins for it dry and then put the silicone strips on.  I kept them on all day....took them off at night when I would go to bed.  Showered in the morning, put the cream on and then the silicone sheets.  I did that for 3 months.

I know it seems like a long time to do it but I wanted the BEST possible results and I really feel I got it (on my breasts).  The extra care really paid for me.

Check with your Plastic Surgeon about what will work best for your skin type.  I have very fair, sensitive skin and the Mederma made me break out in a rash.  I used Vitamin E oil and my surgeon is amazed at how faded my scars are.  The arms tend to be the hardest as far as scaring goes and mine are smooth and you have to be up very close to see them.  Remember that everyone heals differently.

Hey Tazfan.
did you just use the capsules or a vitamin E cream? How long after surgery did you start & how many times a day did you apply it?
Thanks for the info...

I used the Vitamin E oil and massaged it in once daily(at bedtime) for several months and still rub it in once a week to keep my skin soft.

For my brachioplasty (1/5/09) I used NewGel silicone sheets at night and KelaCote during the day.  I didn't realize how good my arms were until I had a revision on my left in June; the comparison is unbelieveable!  So I'm doing the same thing again.  They say to wait to use them until the area is healed well..I started at 6 weeks post op both times.  Yes, it's expensive, but the arms show so I wanted to do what I could.  Good luck, Barb

Hi Kat

I have been using the silicone scar sheets form CVS on my arms, and it has made a difference for me. I plan on using the kele-cote based on a few praises from folks on the board. I intend to continue using the sheets for another month and will then use the kelecote. I started using them based on the suggestions on the box and online which is when you are healed without any drainage or open wounds. for me that was around 2 weeks  I wear them 24/7 except to shower and change them as suggested every 3-4 days.

Dr Sauceda suggested the silicone sheets. I have using them for about 2 months now. I cant say when they were the worst but they are not raised and they are slowly fading. I am prone to keloiding but I have no keloids on my arms either. I get them at CVS for $24.99 for 28 1.5 x 2.75 sheets.

Hope you find something that will work for you
