One thing I was sure to prepare for and didn't want to happen was post-op constipation. I'm worried, a bit confused and not sure what to do. I was in hospital 2 nights, didn't eat much. Got home sat am and started eating slowing, mainly protein and veggies; lots of eggs. I also started taking stool softeners 2x a day. Problem is they are gellcap and my DS intestines are probably malabsorping most of it. I haven't had a BM yet. I took 2 laxatives last night, and no BM this am, I took 2 more laxitives in the am and nothing this evening. I am going to take 4 laxitives tonight which is the max this brand says to take at a time. I don't feel constipated but I probably should  have had a bm by now. Any advice?

Dulcolax laxative tablets do the trick for me.  After my Tummy Tuck, I took 3 the next day and then 2 the following day and things got moving on day 3.  :-)
Once things start moving I eat Fiber One cereal every afternoon (a snack) to keep things going.

Good luck!!

PS- at first take a laxative if you are allowed to instead of a stool softener....the laxative will work better

Hello,
I would not keep taking all of those laxatives or you need to stay close to home because when you do go you will go. Try taking miralax it is wonderful. You can get it at walmart about $8$10 and you mix it with what you are drinking and in about 3 days it will move you. I have been using miralax for 3 years. my doc prescribes it for me and I pick it up at walmart. I get mine because I had the bypass and constipation issues. Have not had this worry for almost 3 years. And the miralax does not have a taste so you only taste your drink.
Hope this helps and congrat on the LBL. I love my LBL had mine in March of this year.

I never really had any problems with constipation after surgery but I did take a stool softener with every pain pill I took.  Also, some people swear that Smooth Move Herbal Tea works well too.  You can find that at GNC.

Are you still taking pain medication?  That is most likely the culprit.  I take Phillips caplets.  Stool softeners never help me.

Thanks so much guys, 1 took 2 laxitives last night and went twice this morning without straining, I am really relieved. I'll look for the other thing mentioned when i am at the drug store today. Can't wait to see the surgeon at 2.
