 Hello,

I had breast lift and reduction in April 09.  I am now a 36B,  was told by my plastic surgeon that I did not have to wear a bra, but a friend told me her plastic surgeon told her she must wear a bra.  Need help....should I or shouldn't I?

I had my lift Oct 08 and my Dr said to wear a good support bra or I would have drooping alot sooner. The lift is not going to hold forever unfortunately. I go without a bra for a SHORT time now...I even wear a sports bra to bed...

I'm going for my 1 mo. apt Thurs.  When I went for my 1 week my PS told me I didn't have to wear my bra.  BUT I have a friend that used a different surgeon and she said he wanted her to wear a tight fitting sports bra for a while.  I don't remember exactly how long.  I guess different surgeons have different oppinions.

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." Erma Bombeck

After my BA I am a 36C.  My PS had me wearing a bra 24/7 for the first 6 weeks.  It has been 2 years almost since and mine are still looking good.  I wear a bra most of the time but at times go without one(depends on the top) and everything points forward not down.

I've been doing a lot of reading on the types of breast lifts and the basic story is that everyone's breasts will eventual sag again. The determining factors of how soon are: genetics, gravity, the weight of the breast, and how often they are supported (wearing a bra).

Generally, breasts can at most, go 15 years without sagging to some degree again, but that time is reduced by half if you never wear a bra. I guess it depends how much you value your freedom! LOL! I could see why it would be job security for a plastic surgeon to say you NEVER need to wear one!!

I had a lift with augmentation.  My PS said only sportbra for 2 months, then whatever I want after that.  He said "eventually" I can go without if I want.  Like someone else said, you will droop and can sag even with PS.  At this time I wear an underwire bra (preferr unwired now, but hard to find in my size) during the day, nothing when I get home, and then I sleep in a sportbra.  Good luck!

My surgeon said wear a good wire-free bra 24/7 for 6 weeks. I  wear one most of the time now but do go without on occasion. Just my opinion but I say wear one some of the time.

Hi Patricia,
I just had my breast revised with implants. I had a car accident and broke my back and I had a reduction after that due to the weight of my breasts. I then years later after loosing the weight lost breast tissue and I had implants placed. I got a capsular contracture around one and the other moved out of place. My PS revised them and replaced them with larger implants. I had another lift done and the first time I was binded up very tightly after surgery and was told to wear a sports bra for the first 6 weeks. Now this time when I woke up out of surgery on 9/14/09. I had nothing on just my hospital gown. And they look great. I am very impressed. I do wear a sports bra at night to bed and to work but after my 6 weeks I will wear my bra with the underwire my PS told me that It helps to flatten out the scar, since I have somewhat of a tendency for keloids. I dont wear a bra if the maxi dress I am wearing doesnt call for it but other than that I do wear one and I am pleased.
Have fun with the newbies and enjoy life. Continued Success,
Kim

I wear a bra practically 24/7.  Around the house and to bed I wear a sports bra.  I am 56 so I know that I will sag again if I do not take good care of the girls.

Technically speaking you do not need to wear one BUT I choose to wear one for a full 3 months because I did not them to sag and I did not want the incision to stretch at all.  I have to tell you I have the the thinnest incision lines on my breasts....truly the best.  I believe it is because I lived in the sports bra or the surgery bra 23x7.  Seemed to me doing this for 3 months was not too bad a price to pay.  Just my opinion......

Best wishes
