hello
your arms look wonderful
how long were you in surgery
and did it hurt? how long were you home from work?
was it hard to move your arms for how long?

you guess that I am having the same operation on DEC 17

thank you

Deb

I probably can't be too helpful because I had my surgery with several others at the same time, so it's hard to separate just the arms from the equation.

I was in surgery for over 12 hours-- but like I said, I had multiple procedures done. The scar starts just below my elbow, goes into my armpit, zigzags, then down both sides and under my breasts (this is my breast lift scar line.)

Hurts quite a bit but at the time my abdomen was the bigger issue, so I didn't notice how much the arms hurt, often. It felt much better at about 6 weeks when all the crunchy scabs fell off. The elbow area was very red, painful and swollen until about 2.5 months out because I use my arms a lot, but it finally subsided. I used a heating pad for about a week when the pain was ai its worst-- which was at about 4 weeks out.

I was off from work on summer vacation, so not sure how long I would have needed. Because I move boxes and supplies around all day, I think I would have needed a solid month or more. I had them wrapped in ace bandages for three-four weeks-- most wear compression garments but I didn't care much for mine, so I didn't (with my doc's blessing.) I did wear Hypafix tape to support the scar line for about two months and still do when I use the scar sheets.

I didn't have the full range of motion bac****il about a week ago. I exercise a LOT, which helps. My arms are still too painful for me to sleep on my sides, 3 months later. Parts of my arm are numb. I still have some nerve pain as the nerves re-awaken-- especially when I drink something very hot or very cold-- big sharp twinges but they go away as fast as they come on. Really no big deal.

I do use scar sheets-- 4 days a week on, three off, seems to be reducing some of the redness. I do workouts with light hand weights-- 5 pounds for now-- and will increase over time.

Hope that helps.

AMAZING RESULTS!!!!!!!  I sure hope mine turn out even half that good!  My arms are my absolute worst extra skin, my current pics look like your befores.  I have my first round of plastics (which doesn't include arms, that will be in phase 2) in January.  I can't wait for it all to be over so I can have normal sized arms...and no more lumps of skin all over!  Thanks for all your before and afters and the information you share here.  It helps us pre-PSers so much!

I had a MUCH better than typical result with my brachioplasty, and I am a lucky girl. I attribute it to the following:

1) Great pre-op nutrition
2) Good pre-op conditioning-- started weights and exercise in earnest about 4 months before surgery
3) I shopped around until I found a surgeon whose vision and outlook matched mine
4) Great post op care (my mom was a critical care nurse)
5) Keeping arms wrapped much of the time and changing the level of compression on occasion
6) Sleeping with arms up on pillows to aid in circulation
7) Light fingertip massage at bedtime to keep the lymph moving
8) Exercise, so the shoulders don't get "locked out" starting quite early out
9) Upping protein post-op (I get about 170 g most days!)
