Abdominoplasty Question
I am in need of guidance. I had a lap band placed in January 2009 and have lost 97 pounds so far. I was in my surgeon's office last week and they wanted me to go ahead and see a plastic surgeon to discuss an abdominoplasty. I am far from goal with needing to lose another 100 pounds but because of my VERY pendulous belly I am developing even greater back pain than what I had when I was heavier and actually ending up with sores in the skin folds that I did not have when I was heavier. They indicated that I would probably need the plastic surgery in stages because of my need to lose so much additional weight. Would like some feedback from anyone who has had this situation and perhaps had more than one surgery because of this.
I had an abdominoplasty when I still weighed 220, and it worked out fine. And I felt so much better! It held up through a weight regain (pre-WLS) and now the loss. One of the best things I ever did for myself! Best wishes :-) --Dorothy

I am trying to get scheduled for lower body lift (front and back) I have rashes and a hernia repair. Hoping BCBS will pay for all or part. I have back and neck pain. Dr advised me that the lift mostlikely with not help with the pain. I really want to get some relief and some balance.
Interesting Insurance will not pay for pain but for may pay for the severe rash.
I do not want to wait. Trying to work out is a pain with hanging rashy skin. I feel dirty with the rash and cannot get it to heal totally.
With Washington talking about messing with health insurance I am trying to get it done before the end of the year.
Thank you for comments

I'm in the same situation. I've lost about 87 pounds since lapband surgery but 130 lbs since my highest weight. I have been having issues with my navel being infected. To be honest, it looks horrible because the skin on my stomach hangs over it. My lapband surgeon told me I would have to have a TT as well. I made an appoinment with the plastic surgeon for my 1st consult to see what they can do for me. Good luck to you
I am exactly where you are now!
I have lost 165 lbs from my lap band and still have 100lbs to go. I have been having so many back problems that I am having a tummy tuck in December. I scheduled it for December hoping I'll lose more. I am not supposed to take NSAIDS because of the band, but I have to take Aleve almost daily. I've consulted with a surgeon here in Denver and he would be willing to the do the surgery now. The cost is very high here so I am going to Dr. Sauceda in Mexico.
He told me that he's sure I'll need more surgery later after I get to goal, but he's willing to do this first phase.

Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
Just be aware that you will likely not be happy with the results of an initial surgery. I personally don't buy the "you'll need multiple surgeries because of the amount of weight" line because MANY people here have lost close to (or well over) 200 pounds and NOT done multiple surgeries (and therefore NOT encountered the additional expense). IF insurance pays for an initial surgery they will almost certainly NOT pay for any additiona one(s)). You CAN combat the rashes with prescription powder and combat the back pain by wearing a supportive undergarment if you want to delay PS until you have lost most/all of your weight and then can do it all in one shot...

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I am doing the initial surgery because I think it will help with my mobility. I wear a back supporter and spanx everyday. I also workout every day, 7 days a week. I have about 300 lbs to lose. But feel that I'll be okay after losing 270. I am sure the results won't be pretty, but I"m not looking for pretty - I'm looking for relief from my back problems. My insurance didn't cover my LapBand and they aren't covering my PS. It's okay.

everyone carries there weight in different areas, I know people who lost 275 lbs and did not have a hanging panni.
did you ever have a rash under your panni to know how bad and infected and smelly it can be. if you panni is so big they don't make supportive undergarments in a XXXL size
it depends on how far your panni hangs down I know people that there panni goes down to their knee.
I know of a friend who has that problem she lost 200 lbs has about a 40 lb belly to her knee horrible back pain and walked worse then before insurance paid for the first rremoval and will pay the 2nd time after she looses another 100lbs her mobility increased 100%.
my friend had hers done & would do it again in a heartbeat. you are getting a panni removal first time and then the 2nd time you will get the abdominoplasty
