What makes a TT medically necessary

My insurance will pay for a medically necessary reconstructive procedure.  I was just wondering what would be "medically necessary" as far as my panni goes.  Thanks in advance for your help, I promise I tried to use the "search" feature first, I just couldn't find what I was looking for.

If it's causing you tremendous and measurable pain, if you have recurrent rashes that do not respond to treatment, if you have skin degradation or intertrigo, or sores.

For some it is rashes, yeast infections and in general yucky skin.  For others it is back pain that is aggravated by the hanging panni.  For others, the panni may hang so low that it impairs their mobility.  I guess the long and the short of it -- is if the skin is creating or aggravating physical illness and you have that documented through numerous appointments with PCP and other specialists.  Also they look at how the condition is treated.  Over the counter stuff or do you need prescription medications to treat the malady.

usually when the insurance deems reconstruction medically necessary they will only pay to have the skin removed - the panni, they won't do a full tummy tuck.  there won't be any tightening of the muscles.

as the medical necessity for each insurance is different the best thing to do is to contact your company and ask for their medical guidelines...... in my particular case they wanted 6 months documented 'antibiotic resistant rashes'.... well, as we all know, our rashes are typically yeast and yeast you don't treat with an antibiotic... and hence... no coverage for me.
