3 months post op and still haven't lost the water! Plus hernia ???s

I was 154 day of surgery and was 152.6 today-- three months post op, even though he removed over 10 pounds of skin from the belly alone, not to mention the amrs and breasts.

The water hasn't left-- I am swelling more now than ever and tearing my belly skin, getting new raw red stretch marks daily. My edema is hugely outta control-- my left ankle was 2 inches bigger than the right on Thursday.

Also...my hernia repair area (to my right of what used to be my navel) gets very swollen and painful-- makes a big swollen mound by 5 pm that sticks up and hurts. Walking fast and exercise make it burn.

Ideas?

oh my do you eat alot of salted items? Have you been back to the dr's? maybe you need to wear your binder again? I do still get swollen on acasion but depends on what I have done and wore that day if I wear like no supposrt like say a dress then I am so swollen that night I feel like I could pop! but if I wear like a tight pair of shorts then no swelling and I feel better too! I can't believe it we both had sugerys about the same time and I too had a large hernia repaired and some tissue removed but I can like almost feel the mesh under the skin from that! but it defintly is more tender in that area! well hope all gets better! I can't believe your feet swell too well keep us up to date!

Wow, sorry you are still suffering with the swelling.....you've had it rough.  Is there any hidden sodium in your diet?  Pre-packaged food, table salt, nuts/almonds, pizza sauce, canned foods, etc etc.  I ate 1 slice of pizza and could feel the difference this morning when I woke up.

I found getting into the compression garment has helped a little.  Plus I'm drinking 3-4 cups of green tea (just plain green tea no sweeteners, no flavors) helps.  Today I am trying another "natural" solution I read about which is supposed to help eliminate water.... basically eating and drinking Leeks every day.  I can let you know if I notice a difference tomorrow as that will be day 2 for me.  FYI - I read about this on WebMD.

If I come up with a good solution I'll share it with you.  Let me know if you hear of one that works.

I've got a couple dilemmas here--

1) I can't wear heavy compression garments. My classroom is often over 90 degrees and being overheated makes the edema even worse. When it's cool I do wear compression shorts and briefs, but that cuts the circulation off in my legs--- whi*****reases the edema..

2) No hidden sodium-- lots of overt sodium though! ;) I have low blood pressure which I have been nudging along with a little extra sodium, which I am trying now to scale back on a little.

I'm working on drinking more tea myself!

I thought I read somewhere on here that it took almost six months for swelling to go away.

try lymph massage for a couple weeks to see if you can notice a change. I went for a couple weeks and it made a huge difference (although after about 5-6 visits it didn't help much, but those few visits made the worst of it GONE!).

Good luck!

I'd like to but can't afford it, unfortunately. I did read up on it and do it at home at bedtime on myself for about 20 minutes-- and it seemed to help, then BLAMMO! Swelling's back.

1)I have a pain where I had a hernia repaired.
2) My classroom's over 90 degrees so the compression wear (including the stockings) just can't happen right now.
