Hi all !!! please
OK ,here it is ..I'm to have Component Separation Repair soon .i am a cig smoker .he told me to stop now ,OK i well do this with the help of a higher place .have any of you had yr plastics and didn't stop smoking and had lots of problems ,like not healing ,blood pockets .. NO flaming I know what I have to do .just please honesty ..Red in TX .
I know that its hard to quit, my heart goes out to smokers who are trying to kick the habit...I can see how hard it is for them. (I've never smoked)
Please, please, please keep in mind that smoking is going to slow your recovery time and potentially cause complications....and as someone who is already 2 weeks post op from plastics I can tell you its' already difficult enough when you are in good health.
You will be doing your body a favor and making it healthier...perhaps you can talk to your doctor about getting some help to quit.
Good luck to you, may you have a sucessful surgery!

Hi!
I'm not going to "flame" you and I am not a smoker but I can tell you I have spoken with many folks who were smokers and smoked up to very close to their surgery and they had all kinds of healing issues. Wound separation, holes that won't heal, skin died, belly buttons that won't heal, just a real mess.
In my humble opinion if you can give yourself a few months to get off the cigarettes and then have surgery I think you'll have a much easier time with recovery. Of course I'm sure it will be a rough few months without cogs....I guess you have to decide which way you to suffer.... (hope that doesn't sound snotty...I don't mean it to).
Either way you decide to go do yourself a BIG favour and start packing in the protein. I consume 100-120 grams daily (most in the form of whey protein). About 2 or 3 weeks before my surgery I made sure I got at least 120 grams every day and I'm feeling FANTASTIC!!!
Best wishes to you!
Ruth

I will not flame you... I quit 2 weeks ago... ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/applause.gif)
I smoked for 25 years and quit. I stayed off the smokes for 3 years, and had a moment of insanity and started again. (I think that is why I was able to lose 40 pounds pre-op). I had to quit for my RNY- surgeons orders, and he tests your blood! So I quit for about 6 months again. Had another stressful event, now couldn't turn to food after my RNY, and started again in June. I met with several PS's and the one I chose also requires you to quit at least 1 month before and 3 months after surgery. I am not planning to have my PS until Dec, but I have already quit in preparation. I am hoping this time it will be for good!!!
BTW, every time I quit, I took Wellbutrin. I would NEVER have been able to quit without it!! It is a miracle drug!! Makes you "forget" to smoke, and changes the taste of the cigarettes. Might be worth a try!! But don't get the extended release... it doesn't work as well.
GOOD LUCK!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
