Poll - Scar sheets

OK - I know there are several people on here who have used scar sheets - some like them, some dont. So what's your opinion on them - PLEASE? (I'm planning on wearing them under compression garmets as I've heard some people say they can fall off.) They would be for my breast lift/aug, arm lift and then maybe the old (will be 8 months old when i start using them) scars from my thigh lift.  If they totally don't work, I don't want to buy them at all because they are super expensive (but worth it if they really do work).

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Thanks!

Cass

Do you mean silicone sheets? I ordered some from www.silon.com. They're really useful and they seem to have really helped my scars out. My surgeon recommended them because I keloid easily and they help to prevent keloiding.

They are kind of pricey. I probably wouldn't have bought them if it weren't for my keloiding issue.

My skin is too sensitive.  The adhesive causes welts.  I don't know if your skin is super sensitive like that or not but something to keep in mind.  I am having to go the liquid or mederma route just for that reason...the tape on my incisions caused blisters.  :-(

After my Jan 09 brachioplasty I used NewGel silicone strips at night and KelaCote during the day.  I'm very pleased with the way my scars look.  I had a left arm revision in June 09 and once again I'm using NewGel strips at night but this time Dermatix Ultra during the day.  Dermatix goes on much easier and takes less to cover the area.  Too early to see the results from it.  I started my scar therapy at 6 weeks post op both times.  Did the strips and gel really help?  I don't know .. maybe I'm just fortunate to have skin that heals well.  Barb

My surgeon says it is a waste of money . He told me to do massage with anylotion that has Vit E in it. Actually he said to buy the Suave with E from Walmart and massage the scars once the stitches are all out. He said to massage with the lotion twice a day..  Use a firm massage and that it will be a great scar when it is over ..SO far it has worked for me..

My surgeon likes Kelocote, but said that anything is optional for me, since I scar well. He also said I could cut open a vitamin E capsule and rub that on the scars. My tummy tuck scar looks like a white line now, not bad at all. I'll see how the rest pans out.

Hi Cass,
I LOVE them!  They work great for me!  BUT.......I do not think they work well on the arms.  When I had my arm revision I used a tight compression garment specially for the arms and that did the trick for me.  My scars are flat (except for 1 spot by the elbow which will be fixed in a couple months).

FYI - I just had my Tummy Tuck and and a 2nd breast lift and I plan on using them as soon as I get the go ahead from my surgeon (usually around week 2 or 3).

Best wishes!

My PS reccomended I use nothing on my scar.  No creams, sheets, ice, nadda.  I am a month post op and they seem to be healing very nicely.

My PS said to massage my scar after a couple of weeks with whatever cream I use on my face, that the massaging is what's important, not the lotion.
